Just bought one of these, 4k miles on the clock, one owner, full service history, just had its first MOT.

Any known/common faults or issues these bikes have?
General reviews on them if anyone has one?

What Oil would i need? i usually use putoline but what weight?
What Coolant, Gearbox Oil etc?

Thanks! Thumbs Up

I had the X, new for £3600, did 7000 trouble free miles, had a tail tidy, exhaust etc, blew every other 4 stroke 125 motor out the water, don't regret it at all.

Sold for £2950 Thumbs Up

Had a test run on one of these a little while ago. Great bike but, I ended up with a sore ar$e, due to the style of seat. I'm not the slimmest of people though, so that may not of helped.

If I remember correctly, I think it has the same engine as the YZF R125 and that uses 10W 40 fully or semi - synthetic oil.

Might want to change those header bolts while you can still get them off, they look far rustier than anything else on the bike.

Looks sweet mate Thumbs Up
I use silkolene super 4 in mine.

Coolant, I used the motul premixed stuff (lazy, yes I know Smile )

Gearbox oil? This ain't no 2 stroke son. The engine oil is the gear box oil, just change it every 1800 miles or earlier if the gear changing doesn't feel as slick.

Overall cracking bike, no issues come to mind and I haven't heard of any either.
Only bad point that comes to mind is the valves are an arse to get to.
I also had an am exhaust, tail tidy etc.. Sounds like a 400 with an arrow Cool

@supermoto_fan, that sounds good to me Very Happy my MTX barely did 1000 trouble free miles xD!

@dave70, yep i heard somewhere it has the same engine as the YZFR125, MT4-125, And ofcourse the WR125X! will make it easier to source parts if needed and oils/fluids!

@cdug, yep that will be the first job on the list, replace with stainless steel and plenty of copper slip! probably replace the exhaust heatshield ones too they look a bit crusty.

@CRZ, theres two that live near me and one has an arrow exhaust and that sounds real good!

probably change oil every 1500 miles, comes with a fresh service and fresh 12 months MOT also Smile

Thanks guys, if anyone finds a spec sheet for oils coolants etc oil filter and service items, please drop a link here!

Thanks!

If you have a look on yamahar125.com forum, there's a service manual somewhere. Obviously a different bike but all the engine stuff should be the same.

I had an R125, no problems whatsoever, however, many of them have been owned by 17 year old Rossi wannabes who don't know how to check the oil. Keep an eye on the oil level, some are known to burn a bit and since there's only 1 litre, it doesn't take much for it to drop below the min level on the dipstick. Plenty of engines knackered as a result of this. Mine didn't seem to use any though.

I quite fancied the WR125 version with the supermoto wheels as a winter hack but they're a bit expensive still!

The yam small 125s don't have an oil filter, and only use 1L of oil, so change the oil often.

It doesn't need anything expensive, as you're changing it often, so the cheapest synthetic 5w30 you can find, and change it every 1000 miles.

With a little practice it becomes a 10 minute job

The engine in the YZF-R125 and WR125 definitely DO have an oil filter.

I too can vouch for that. I would also stick to the recommended 10W 40 oil also and change it at least every 1800 miles.

@Northern Monkey, the wr does have an oil filter, albeit a tiny one.

For parts Just order off ebay, ajsutton or pop down your local yammy dealer. I would highly recommend the silkolene super 4. Cost me £6.14 for 1 litre, which is what the sump holds.

As codemonkey mentions, checkout yamahar125.com. It has a service manual for a wr125 with everything you need to know and how to do it. No specific oils are mentioned but don't put fully synthetic in because it really doesn't need it and would probably cause clutch slip.

Also check the owners manual for other info.
