1985 Suzuki gs550l front brake light switch

well tinkering around with bike waiting carb parts. got the rear light working (dirty ground) and the rear brake lights the light but the front brake does not. Turns out switch is gone. Ordered a new one. Any tricks to install?

Not an MOT requirement on a 1985 bike but you just unscrew the old one, take the wires off, wires on new switch and screw it back in place

Just take the switch off and clean it properly. Thumbs Up

that would work if there was a switch. As I said the switch is gone.

it is required here in the Missouri, USA. will not pass inspection without it.

I didn't think that they had one on the front brake as stock. I know that my '83 GS650 didn't - it comes up as an advisory on the MOT, but I don't know what the roadworthiness tests are like in the US.

Are any wires still there?
If so you can check the circuit by just shorting them out, light should illuminate.

If wires missing then you have to check if (a) cut - so find where and join some more or (b) just tucked away maybe near headlight - win.

You may need a screw for the putting the switch onto the lever part. My guess is that'll be the hardest bit to find.

Found a fiche for the GS550 front brake lever here (yes US model, so maybe UK no switch?)

the wires are there and the putting them together lights the brake light so a new switch and I will be in business.
