Sounds fair. A rev limit is the cheapest and most obvious way to drop the speeds a tad. Could be enforced through a control ECU that Dorna are looking to supply in 2016 when the tyres change. That'll be the next big shake up of rules.

I'm all for minimal restriction, however the bikes are getting so fast it'll lead to venues being removed from the calendar due to a lack of run off. No one wants to see racing around soulless tracks.

Part 1 is interesting as well:-

https://www.cycleworld.com/2014/06/12/exclusive-interview-with-brembo-engineer-lorenzo-bortolozzo-ducati-factory-rider-andrea-dovizioso-on-motogp-braking/

The article says the weight of the bikes is one of the main problems for the brakes.
They are already recording temperatures of over 1000 degrees C.
900 degrees C is the upper limit of the temperature range for carbon discs.

They're stuck between a rock and a hard place, do you carry on developing the bikes regardless or do you develop the bikes to race on the existing tracks?

Would it be particularly noticeable if the bikes were topping out at 200 rather than 220? I don't think so, it may even make the racing closer as they'd be able to brake later and have to lose less speed for the corners.

A lot of the new Formula 1 tracks (designed by Herman Tilke) are just massive concrete car parks with painted lines and kerbs, so much run off everywhere there isn't a punishment for getting it wrong. Thats the kinda places MotoGP will end up if they don't get top speeds under control and have to lose some of the less safe circuits. Not what the sport needs really, it'd make it more boring.

Devils Advocate:-

Restricting top speed will bring MotoGP in to conflict with WSBK, the article says there is little difference in top speed, at most circuits.
MotoGp will then demand a top speed restriction in WSBK, so they can maintain top dog status.
MotoGP will then have to rely on the same "pinnacle of engineering" bollox that F1 does, to excuse the pisspoor "racing" on the track!

Hang on though, haven't WSBK just introduced some new rules for next year, the evo thing? You can mod the frame and suspension as much as you want but they're bringing in strict technical limits for engine, ECU and drivetrain.
