Did it not have steering lock on like most modern Yammys do?

steering locks are pointless and easily broken in seconds, sat on the pillion seat and kick bars with legs

A Yamaha ZZR1400? Eh?

Most probably had the steering lock on, but they always get broken.

That's the way they nicked my old bike with another ped. The guy on the ped would push the bike along with his foot on the footpeg and get up to normal speed's in no time. Well at least quicker than running Sad

The moped was more than likely also stolen, and they're just moving it to a more secluded place to disable the alarm and hotwire the bike.
Even new Ducati's can be hotwired, if the thieves know what they're doing. Need a ECU mod to start them though.

Chain through the back wheel (I put my chain through the chain and swing arm to make it more complicated to remove without cutting the chain and making noise) and secured to a lamp post or another immovable object. I recommend something the scrote's can't chop with a pair of bolt crops.

They'll probably come back in a few weeks time to see what your friend has replaced the bike with out of insurance money as well. Rolling Eyes

I'd have a read through this as well, will help you out on security.

P.S I seriously hope none of you are relying on your steering locks. Thieves often operate in twos or more. Even the trickiest steering locks can be disabled by two people. Rolling Eyes Heck most will break with one person though, a quick YouTube search and watching CCTV clips shows how easy it is.

Dull but true story, I parked up the GS this morning, put the steering lock on, realised what I'd done, and unlocked it again.

There's 16mm chain through a railing and the frame: if they want it that badly then two ickle metal tabs aren't going to give them any pause for thought.

There's nobody to blame for this but the scrotes, but it does appear that they're operating without the slightest concern for the consequences. Sad

The little twats!

I work just a few streets away from there, definitely a worry.

PM me if you like, I'll point you to where I park at work, decent spot with strong railing to chain to, CCTV, free and probably only 5-10 min walk away.

Well I know most modern Yamaha's have steering lock (even the old Thunderace does) but I didn't know what Kawasaki's were like, having only experience with Yamaha's. Thought maybe that didn't have one or some such.

How would they break/cheat a steering lock?

Sit on the bike/stand next to it and kick the handlebars until it snaps. As mentioned above, it doesn't take long and there is lots of CCTV showing this on the net.

Same happened in Croydon a few weeks back, to a colleagues Busa.

Perps rock up on a ped, one drags target away from others and then pushed by guy on ped sticking a leg out.

Under the gaze of our CCTV. That apparently isn't actively monitored despite it being on a screen in reception for security to let people in.

Ah fair enough Karma Thumbs Up

I don't know of many bikes without steering locks these days, even in the 90s and older.

Any steering lock can be broken easily, as described above. Have a look at a few videos, see how easy it is.

The guys that did mine did it in seconds.

I hope the OP hears some news about its whereabouts, surprising they get away with it with so many people/cameras about that someone will see it or can at least be traced some what hopefully.
