I've rode a WR125X, I liked it. Seemed reasonably pokey for a 125, I think a low-ish weight helped. I found it to be a bit cramped, but 6'4" with a 35" inside leg A lad at college has a duke 125, that seems to be very similar, but like has been said shorter, but possibly more comfy, thanks to a wider seat. And the duke has better brakes and suspension, I think?!?
I'd say the duke looks more like it's bigger brother, and thus bigger. I'd imagine the Yam would be cheaper parts, but maybe less resale value? I'd take a guess at the WR being more reliable, although I can't think of any serious horror stories with the KTM, apart from the clocks. Personally, I'd go WR, you could probably pick one up cheaper as well, being slightly older, more about.
In Australia, You mention a Yamaha WR125, they think of this:

A YZ with lights!
Just keep an eye out for either or, the "one" will come along.
I was looking for an MTX125 when I was 17, but I saw the Varadero at the right price at the right time, and went for that instead.
I was looking for a WR250F, but my TTR came up and I just wanted that instead, don't get too focussed on one particular bike. ____________________ Current:1991 Honda MT50 (Soon to be a H100/MTX/MT5 hybrid), 1976 Honda Cub C70, 2005 Honda Varadero 125, 1993 Yamaha TTR250 Open Enduro , 2010 Road Legal Stomp YX140, 1994 Honda CRM 250 MK III, 1999 Cagiva Mito 125, 1992 Honda CB400 Super Four, Stomp T4 230, 1984 Honda H100s, 2009 Sym XS125K

Both are expensive, but given the questions over reliability with the KTM the Yamaha's a safer bet. ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

I was in my local Dealer the other day, and though I didn't see all the prices they had a fair selection of second hand 125's in stock. Some were old and still fairly tidy, and other's newer a scuffed and dry chains etc.
No surprise it's bikes like the sporty ones, Yamaha YZF125R and Aprilia RS4 125 that seemed slightly neglected. There was at least 2 YZF's for sale, and the Prilia was a 12plate 5000miles up for £3400 I think.
What caught my eye though was an M-plate Suzuki GN125, it was fairly tidy, has full instruments, front disc brake for tart factor over a CG125, and would have been a good 1st bike but for around £1000 I'd say.
Did lose some respect for Aprilia though, first time I've seen the new 4stroke RS125 replacement, and the finish and spec is nowhere near as good as the two stroke ancestors, particulary the early less pointy/plastic ones. I know a 15bhp bike doesn't need a race chassis or the best components, but it's a sorry substitute for a nice RS125 Extrema or Chesterfield replica etc.
All way off topic Teffers stylie, but to the OP, go and have a sit on loads of different models to see whats comfy and don't limit yourself to one or two bikes unless you have a lot of cash to waste. getting something good condition and looked after, at the right place right time is the key, as long as it fits you well enough to not cause pain/discomfort. |

while i cant comment on the KTM, i can add that i have smashed
5k onto my WR since i got it a year ago and its never skipped a beat.
all i have done to it since owning it is change the oil, adjust the chain and remove the baffle* (started to rattle - i blame arrow)
*and when no one is looking, given it a clean ____________________ Current: 2010 WR125X, Carrera crossfire-E.
