RXS Rev Counter Cable

Hi all,

Would be grateful for any help here. I had an accident a while back on my RXS 100 which has resulted in the Rev Counter cable becoming severed and me buying a replacement.

There is a screw which I need to remove in order to take the old cable out. However, there is another cable - which I think leads to the oil pump - blocking access to said screw. Here's a photo:

The screw on the left is the one I want to undo but is being blocked. I'm not sure how I remove the other cable/bolt for the oil pump (undoing the nut you can see in the photo doesn't seem to do anything - obviously just holding the cable in place).

It appears to be there to lock the thread on the end of the cable ( from what i can see anyway).
Now it un-done try turning the rest of the cable and see if it unscrews from the casing

Yes, I've taken the oil pump cover off now and had another look at it and I think you're right. However, it seems there is a metal tube thing coming from the casing which is basically guiding the cable in. It doesn't seem as though it is removable so I'm not sure how to go about this.

Apologies if this post doesn't make a huge amount of sense. Here's another photo:

The threaded bit seems to be pretty much part of the casing/housing Sad

Its more than likely stuck with age, try and turn the metal shaft with a pair of pliers, just dont force it. If the casings are old / brittle you can crack them or nacker the thread in the casing

I believe the nipple and inner cable will need to be unclipped from the plastic oil pump metering disc to allow the cable adjuster to be fully unwound from the outer casing.

Once everything is back together you will then have to correlate the position of the metering disc against the throttle slide using the threaded adjuster.

Thanks for that, you where right, it unscrewed with the help of some pliers. Unfortunately I still can't change the Rev Counter cable as it seems to have been manufactured incorrectly:

The left cable is the new one. It looks like the small metal bead (not sure what you call it) is on the wrong way round and is stopping the cable from going far enough into the gearbox. You can see on the old cable it is the other way round and this one went in easily. Plus there is no rubber seal on the new one (not sure if they usually come with these or if I need to buy one separately). Ah well, I'll have to wright to the seller and get a replacement.

Yes, I think you're probably right there. Luckily this won't be necessary as I can just move the threaded cable guide out of the way to remove the screw holding the rev counter cable in place. Thanks for you're input though Thumbs Up

Not the ideal solution to being supplied with the wrong or an incorrect part,
but if the old inner cable is undamaged it might be compatible with the new outer.
The O ring could always be carefully removed and fitted to the new outer as well if it's still serviceable.

Yes I did think about trying to use to old O-ring. I will attempt to remove it if the replacement does not come with one.

The old cable is not usable as it has sheared in half Laughing

Length looks ok...have you tried turning the inner cable so it fits in the drive properly. You've bought a pattern cable rather than genuine but should still work fine.

The cable went in most of the way but then just stopped a few mm too short. The seller has been pretty good in sending out a replacement so hopefully it will fit when it arrives.
