First of all, let me apologise for asking yet another licence question. I have looked on the government website and used the search function here but, there's so much to search through regarding the subject.

So I'm hoping someone here will know the answer straight off, as I'm quite confused.

I have just received my UK provisional licence and the categories marked on the back are: AM, A & B.
Which are as follows:

Category AM

You can drive 2-wheeled vehicles with a maximum design speed of over 25km/h (15.5mph) but not more than 45km/h (28mph).

This category also includes light quad bikes with:

unladen mass of not more than 350kg (not including batteries if it’s an electric vehicle)maximum design speed of over 25km/h (15.5mph) but not more than 45km/h (28mph).

Category A

You can drive:

motorbikes with a power output more than 35kW or a power to weight ratio more than 0.2kW/kgmotor tricycles with a power output more than 15kW.

Wouldn't I need category A1 to ride a 125? Which states:

Category A1

You can drive light motorbikes with:

an engine size up to 125cca power output of up to 11kWa power to weight ratio not more than 0.1kW/kg

This category also includes motor tricycles with power output up to 15kW.

Or am I being stupid? Which is quite likely, as the license doesn't have this.

I'm sure mine's the same.. Says I've got category 'A' when I've actually got 'A2', so my license seems to think I can ride anything even though I've yet to pass my full 'A' tests Confused

Exactly what I'm understanding by what it states.

Surely it should state "A1" shouldn't it?

There should be more at the end of each line. Some full car licenses have the A marked out on theirs with (tri) at the end of the row. That means he has a provisional A license but can ride a trike on his car license.

Check the A2 one. Might have something at the end of the row. If you have not done your full A test you are not allowed to ride them and it will say on your licence somewhere about the restriction.

This is what I received. https://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z261/yearzer0/Mobile%20Uploads/Licence1_zps3c8143cc.jpg https://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z261/yearzer0/Mobile%20Uploads/Licence2_zps50202450.jpg

As you can see, the paper part is completely blank, except for my name and address on top.
Eh?

It's a provisional license. All it means is you can provisionally ride A class bikes. Because it has the A class on there you automatically qualify for the lower ones too.

The A box at the back tends to mean anything up to. So you are good.
