Hello all, I ride a honda cbf 125 and I love it. The problem is, we also have two cars and now three kids and I haven't found a single circumstance where going on the bike is better than by car.

I've actually run out of excuses to have it! I can't commute on it because now I'd be going all the way down the A40 from Harrow to east london (way too hairy for my level of riding skill, have tried it and didn't find it practical). I can't really meet up friends on it because there's always something to take or someone to drop off. And as for sunny days out riding, well the kiddies now use up the rest of my time (in the best way!).

Is it time for me to accept that bikes are just for fun IF you have the time and otherwise just for commuting?

Sad face.

Z.

Don't get rid of it yet.. you might regret it a few weeks/months down the line when you have a day to yourself and fancy a ride.

If anything, at least keep it for the rare occasion in the summer when you can ride it.

I don't have or plan on having kids and have a 'cheap n cheerful' Whistle car, so perhaps not a very relevant opinion - but...

You own the bike already, are you going to get that much if you sell it - how much does insurance/tax/petrol once in a while cost you over a year. Unless you would really benefit from that extra cash, which I expect isn't much overall being a 125, i'd keep it and keep riding, even if it isn't very often.

Keeping your NCB building up may make it cheaper longterm if theres a chance you would return to biking in the future, particularly if you move onto a larger bike. I don't need my bike at all anymore, but I get immense enjoyment out of it when I get time and money to ride/travel on it.

I have kids.
Too many if you ask me.
It is this reason why I own 2 bikes.

My wife keeps telling me I should give the bike up, sell it and go through my car test and buy a car as it would be more practical.

She gets "The look!"

Or you could meet her halfway...

Keep bike, go through car test. Buy car (I waited 4 years after passing car test to afford one). use car to transport bike bits. Cool

Sunday mornings.... Early.
That's what I do!

Get up at 6.
Out by 6:30.
1.5hrs riding.
Have a breakfast somewhere.
Another 1.5 hrs riding.
Home for 10:00 am and a great day out with the family (who are all in their pyjamas because it's SO early).

Roads are quiet too!
You need a nice rides from Harrow on a Sunday morning list.

M40 to Marlow, jcn 3. Head south on A4094. Right onto A4155 towards Marlow.
Stay on this road to Henley on Thames. Loop round first roundabout in Henley almost back on yourself....A4130 towards Oxford/Wallingford.
Up the A4074 into Shillingford, turn right up the a 329 through Stadhampton to Milton Common....
Quick run back down the A40........home.

If you find you was back quicker than expected go straight through Milton Common next time to Aylesbury and ride back down the A413 instead of the A40?

"Morning Dad.....what can we do today?"

She had a car. Sold it a few months ago because she stopped working. Bike is needed for my instructing work so I win. Laughing

You have a CBR 125, you haven't even begun biking yet
At least give it a proper shot and get something suitable before throwing in the towel

Boo-hoo Crying or Very sad

I have two kids, and me and my missus have a car each.
I still find a space in my life for a bike.

Without being disrespectful to CBR 125 owners I'm not sure how you can quit biking when you haven't started.

Book a family holiday, but miss the flight. Then have a biking holiday instead.. Do this every few months until she notices.

I've got a wife, car, 2 houses, 4 children & 4 bikes, am I doing it wrong?

The only circumstances in which the car is better are: snow, family outings and collecting building materials from Wickes etc.
