 |
|
Hi All
me and few others are thinking about a trip to Germany this September.
As my aim is the Neuschwachstein castle and slightly obvious route to and from it is through Black Forest, I would like to get few pin points where to stay, what to see, routes etc. so we can arrange it around that. Nice hotels or B+Bs, not too expensive but not 'Hostel' like
Cheers for any tips. |

I did some of the Black Forest last year - best roads I've ever ridden I reckon, that or France on the way back.
Anyway, I'm posting so I'll remember to reply later and try and point out some places I stayed, this is my thread if you fancy a read: clicky. ____________________ I am a bellend, I am a man of constant sorrow, I am a gummy bear, I am a rock. |

I recently 'exported' my motorcycle to where I live now, absolutely loved it (although I was in a bit of a rush to get home so missed many good routes).
Some good country to be ridden around southern belgium (Wallonia?) and Luxembourg. Alsace is good if you make it that far south before heading east into germany. In fact, Alsace is flipping beautiful.
My favourite stretch (save the home straight through Vorarlberg and Tirol of course) was actually Saarland and Rheinland-Pfalz, crossing into Baden-Württemberg. Partly on account of sentimentality: my family are from/still live in between Karlsruhe and the Black Forest, but mainly because it was just a lovely easy-going ride through some lovely country on lovely A-roads that weren't choaked with lorries and caravans etc. From Saarluis and Saarbrücken straight through to Zweibrücken, then to Pirmasens and from then on it's just delightful, a really pleasant hour's ride in my opinion.
Once you get to Landau, I'd opt to go south to Wissembourg then further to Haguenau, then east over the Rhein into Ba-Wü / Baden-Baden.
For me, the Black Forest was just a major let-down. After stopping at my family's place for two nights, I left early and headed straight for Villingen-Schwenningen and it was a complete buzz-kill. Too much traffic, too many speed cameras, not to mention it rained like fuck. As told, I was rushing a little and just took the obvious through roads, but I imagine that with some serious planning you could have a blast in the Black Forest.
Lastly, all I can add is; if you're tempted into a ride around the Bodensee, I wouldn't bother. It's quite shit.
And really lastly; if you're tempted into a jaunt through Tirol, gimme a shout and I'll join you son ____________________ Yamaha XJ600S, Volvo v40. |

Cheers for the tips so far, I'm gonna get a big map and literally pin some points there, and work out the daily mileage and routes.
And will definitely give you a shout Jenks, it's always good to meet someone English speaking in foreign country (
says me who's not even English and definitely ain't 'son' )
And thanks for the link to your thread c_dug. I will defo go through it in detail with my fellow 'travellers'

interested in this too as having just been on a much larger tour and passed through the black forest (in the car ) i'm looking to go back on the bike in the near future and just explore this area. it was stunning and as said above, the road surfaces are second to nothing ____________________ CBT - 17/09/12 * Theory - 23/10/12 * Mod1 - 05/03/13 * Mod2 - 25/03/13 * BOSH!
