I've had a couple of people (Ok, mainly Paddy) recommend the ABS fairing kits via e-bay with regards to fixing my ZZR (been told by a mechanic I trust that it's mechanically sound and straight)

I'm also expecting the insurance to undervalue it so now thinking my most cost effective option is to repair it, it's a great bike just a bit heavier and fuel thirsty than I'd like but most other bikes I'd consider wouldn't be much better on fuel.

Since there's a fair amount of broken plastic on it, a fairing kit may be the way to go but was wondering if anyone had had to pay import duty on one and if so how much?

IRC the cost of the kit on e-bay is about £250-£300

I've known people to not get charged:

This https://www.dutycalculator.com

on £300 kit value and £80 shipping says the total price will be £472.87

I don't understand why the government should profit from something that wasn't even made in this country?

If you know anyone speaks Chinese even after shipping the same fairing kits are cheaper on Taobao.com. I just got a zzr400 and being looking at the kits on there same as eBay but cost around £100. Lower price for the actual fairings should minimise your duty to pay as well.

All the fairings I can see on there are for the ZX-6R (also known in other markets as the ZZR)

I'm needing them for this:

Is the foam lining in the fairings actually there for anything important?

The chinese moulded ones don't appear to have them and I wasn't sure if I needed to try and find them or not?

I bought a kit for my R1 - cost was £287 and import duty came to £58.

That said it fitted perfectly and was on in 2 hours.

Make sure you use heat shielding on the areas that get hot or it will ruin the lacquer quite quickly. I borrowed a roll from work but amazon do it - I coated the inside of my fairings with it - looks good as new a few months down the road.

Oh and get a dremel too, there will be some fettling involved.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's duty free zone between Hong Kong and UK. That's how I order stuff from China, to keep my money in my pocket. Thumbs Up

Err, there is a double taxation treaty set up between the two countries, which meant that expat retirees with UK pensions living in HK had to pay the UK tax rate rather than the HK tax rate (which is essentially zero).

I have ordered a set, no tax charged, overall item was £300, 1 broken panel, fixed with glue and you'd never notice it. They refunded me 1/2 the full price.

Good enough, that was from a shop called neverland gbp or something equally homosex. Thumbs Up
