Hello, today I did a 150 miles run on a fresh front Dunlop Arowmax GT501FJ, after which I tried to push it a bit. The front tire slipped in a slow, tight corner and I nearly went under a lorry. Rolling Eyes

I've never experienced that before. 150 miles used to be enough to get the new rubber ready for action. The Dunlop is very soft, when you touch it, so I thought it was alright to go, but I was wrong apparently. It was 28°C, dry today and the road was clean.

Noob question. Any review on the tire would be nice. Thumbs Up

I'm not saying you're a bad workman blaming his tools....and glad you didn't eat a lorry.... but what did you do prior to the off?

Bike all tiptop with correct pressures?
You increased the lean angle gradually prior to pushing it in a tight corner?

A quick check finds that the Arrowmax StreetSmart is marketed towards the lightweight and classic bikes.
Is that tyre suitable for what you were doing with it?

These people like it.

Did you gradually increase your speed and angle of attack on corners during this 150 miles or did you do all of them in a straight line?

Slow tight corners on roads with lorry traffic can sometimes have oil drops, diesel spillage etc.

Has it been long since the last rain? Surface definitely good?

I did the ''slalom'' thing on straights then went over very curvy mountain pass, the pressure was 2.2bar (OK), the road was clean and oddly enough it was raining a lot past 3 days. The corner was also on that mountain road. No gravel, no oil, diesel ect.

I went quite slowly and increased the lean angle mid corner, because I missed the entry point. BUT, I corrected the trajectory this way many times before, even on a very old rock hard tire and nothing happened. So that's what made it a bit scary. The bars closed right away, so I straighten the bike up a bit and fortunately it got it's grip back, but still, not nice. It took like 2 seconds, yet felt like 2 minutes in that corner.

The tire still has the ''hairs'' around on the edge, but I did not lean it that far, since the peg did not touch the ground. Also I did some wide open corners at high speed leaned with the peg just a bit above the tar, in those initial 150 miles. I also the the ''slalom'' on straights to warm it up and scrub the tire preservatives from it. So, I really thought the tire was OK.

TL; DR - It was an odd day on the bike. By the way, this is my very first brand new set of tires. So I just might not be ready for brand new stuff yet. Smile

I think you find Dunlop recoment 200 miles scrubbing in

You need to build the speed / cornering load slowley

Now I feel stupid, Dave. Confused

I'll give it another 100 miles, just to be sure, and then try to ride as I used to and will see. If you won't hear of me it only means it went wrong. Thumbs Up Laughing

They may advise, but they are only covering themselves. I've ridden like a tool on brand new tyres on a litre bike, never had a slip and they weren't a soft compound tyre either.

I'd say you probably hit a patch of loose dirt, gravel or something equally unfriendly. I'd not worry about it and just carry on riding.

Who fitted it? No lube seeping out?

Take it easy Rhyno Shocked

The same shop as always, no visible lube anywhere. To be honest, I do not even think they use lube at all. They just use soap water, but I'm not sure about that. All I know is, I used soap water to fit tires on my mates MZ, worked like charm. So, I only assume they do it the same, since the tire from them is never greasy around the rim.

Don't worry, I always keep things safe enough. The only time it was not safe was when during one ride the Tokico 6 pots decided to go on strike in front of a corner. I put those 6 pots for sale the same day and since I'm not a knobhead I told the buyer they needed servicing. They were cheap.

I guess Paddy is right, I might overlooked something. I mean, it was the only scary moment that day after all. I had to go through a lot more curvy route, to get to that corner, with no problem. Also, it was in forest, so shadow could hide something. I'm gonna check the tire anyway, better be safe than sorry. Thumbs Up
