So, after 4 years out of the game I have finally bought another bike (Mk1 Tuono) and am looking for some new gear.

I'm looking at getting some new boots but am unsure of what's what, what would you recommend?

I'm currently thinking Alpinestars SMX-5's or these https://www.getgeared.co.uk/tcx-boots-s-sportour-wp_2

I'm looking at spending a maximum of £150.

Thanks

They are pricey but also the best boots I've ever had, hands down. Had them for about 2 years now and no problems.

I know you don't want to spend more than £150 but I'd really recommend these boots. I went through several pairs of £150 boots in previous years and they always ended up falling apart in the end.

Also, that's not the best price, that's RRP. I got mine for about £265.

Definitely look at Sidi.

I've had a pair of Vertigos for 7+ years. They've survived a couple of minor spills, getting drenched to the point I was pouring water out of them when I took them off, and quite a bit of walking around in them, with nothing more than a few scuffs. They just don't want to die! Laughing

I also just got a pair of the new Mag-1s and am very pleased with them as well: amazingly stiff but still very comfortable, and not as fiddly to get on and off as the Vortices.

I've a pair of these:

https://www.twowheel.co.uk/images/detailed/48/tractech-evo-boot-black-wp-1.jpg

RST Tracktech Evo waterproof boots. Cost me around £130. A few quid less and you can get the non waterproof ones. I find they are comfortable enough to wear for training all day, a good part of which is walking around the pad.

I will say, you do need a size up from normal though, I had to get 9's and they took a little bit of breaking in before they could be worn over my leathers.

+1 for the SMX 5's, waterproof, comfy and surprisingly not too hot in the summer.

I just got a pair of SMX Plus, awesome boots, from Demon Tweeks Outlet on eBay. Out of your budget, but cheaper than RRP, I'd check their shop as they do have some good prices, currently only the one pair in your budget, last years SMX Plus, sorted if you're a size 9?...

Try them on. Go to a shop, because they all fit differently. I looked at the sidi b2, dainese tour trq and the Alpinestars smx 6, all gore-tex. Sidi and dainese had lots of heel lift, Alpinestars fitted like a glove Thumbs Up

Great boots the smx 6 gore-tex, keep my feet dry in the pouring rain and nice and cool sitting in traffic in this weather.

Yup, try them on. I went into Infinity to cop a feel of some boots a month or two back as my last pair of three years were ferked. I need pukka waterproof as I ride all weather so ended up with a pair of Dainese Fulcrum Goretex at about £190 I think they were. Decent sole on them for a bit of frogmarching should I wish and not emblazoned with go-faster stickers and lookatme logos.

Tight as a duck's arse to get into at first but they're starting to give now.

When the 'what £150ish boots should I get?' question comes up on here, SMX5s always win. They are superb, look good but not overly tarty, comfortable enough to walk in all day and crash well (several times in my case and not so much as a twisted ankle).

Do it, get some.

Yep. I only got SMX6s because I wanted full gore-tex rather than just the standard waterproof version.

Try Ace Leathers, Holt Road, Norwich. They stock a lot of boots & my husband got some from there as Infinity did not have anything to fit his feet. He has been pleased with his but I got mine from Infinity before we knew this place existed. And ask for discount.

Mmmm tuono.

Remember to increase the rev limiter. I didn't know about it on my way home and thought a 6k limit was a bit shit! Still get an easy 80mph with the limit.

The limiter resets if the battery gets too low, which is real easy to do on these.

Adjustable shift light dohickey. Defaults to 6000rpm.

Quote:
turn ignition on when settled push middle button with V on & hold for 3 secs, it'll show current red line set,
then useing the + & - buttons set where you want it

Has someone deleted a post? How did we get to that from SMX5s?

Sidi Fusion are a good alternative to S-MX5s

Just picked up some S-MX5s from J&S Accessories, I tried on every boot in the store and these seemed to be the nicest fit, best build, easy to put on and take off, and I've been assured they are waterproof.

Breaking them in as we speak.

Had to get 11s, I'm normally a 10.
