Is it best to get a thatcham approved chain? Also are disc locks or u locks any good as easier to carry?

Almax chain and a tail/tank bag. Attach to bike and something solid. Never worry again, never need to buy another chain again.

Almax or Pragmasis. Anything else is nothing more than a visual deterrent. Whilst a good chain will only slow down a determined theif, the fact you'd need power tools to get through one are a real bonus.

Disc locks are nothing more than opportunist chav stoppers. A few big blokes will lift it into a van with little effort if it's not tied down.
