starting issue

i have a 2002 r6 and every time i need to start the engine i have to open the choke and throttle for a while it to start. what should i check to resolve this ?

Is it fuel injection or carbed? I ask because in 03 they made them injected with a different engine (well 90% changed).

thinking about it, it's a 2000 year model so must be carbed

When was the last time it's air filter was changed or if it's a K&N, cleaned? It should start on the choke perfectly fine with no revs applied.

filter not been checked since I've had it, so at least 2 years. I'll check next time i get a chance. anything else i should look for ?

Pull the plugs out see what colour they are.
