 |
|
UPDATE:
Going with Rudyard Kipling's "If", because fuck finding other things. I have been informed I must include"married" in to the final line. I may 'forget' that.
But, in addition to a little joke at he beginning, I would like to read out a translated "confucious say... " joke, in Chinese first, then read it in English. Bear in mind my whole family are very tame, so can't do any thing too naughty.
These are the short list of vaguely wedding/life related ones.
| Quote: | Confucius say… it take many nails to build crib, only one screw to fill it.
Confucius say… perfect gift for man who has everything, is a burglar alarm.
Confucius say… only one whose troubles are behind him, is a school bus driver.
Confucius say… if you want to watch the world pass you by, try driving the speed limit.
Confucius say… marriages are made in heaven… so are thunder & lightning.
Confucius say… at a nudist wedding, you don't have to ask – you can see who the best man is.
Confucius say… man who fight with wife all day get no piece at night.
Confucius say… flying saucer will appear when a nudist spills his coffee. |
I will need at least two to make the final cut, in case the translation becomes long and horrible to read.
So, what do you think would cheer them up after a long reading of quite a sombre poem best?
---------------------------------------
So, I am stuck reading at my sisters wedding.
It's a civil service, so god cannot be mentioned.
My mind instantly leapt to 'If' by Rudyard Kipling, again and again, because it would mean a lot to me, my dad, my grandad... and also be a nod towards the kind of man I'd hope was marrying my sister.
My sisters have both decided it is too "Churchill - Fight them on the beaches" and demanded other stuff, but not telling me what.
Now, asides from the planned joke to get up and recite Baldricks "Boom Boom Boom" for a few lines, I'm stumped. And also, largely disinterested.
Please can you lovely people suggest some civil (non-goddy) stuff to read and a very very very tame wedding.

From September 2014 to January/February 2015 I will not be using any English, nor reading any. As such, I won't be on here. PM at will, but I won't be checking/posting unless in emergencies. Certainly not for the first couple of months. Please berate me savagely if I break that rule...

Elizabeth Barrett Browning.
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with a passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, --- I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! --- and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

In situations like this, I always ask myself "What would the Macc Lads do?". Why not try this jolly little ode called "Fluffy Pup"?
Well, I spent last night trying to chuck me bird,
She were clinging to me leg like a homesick turd,
I said your tits are too small and your legs are too short,
I want a fit bird from the Sunday Sport,
I can't hear me records when you sit on me face,
And then she mouths off in front of me mates,
But you told me that you loved me,
I never fucking did,
You used fer bring me flowers,
I said shut your fucking grid,
You acted dead sweet and you called me fluffy pup,
You can cook you can fuck you can do the washing up,
Now I've had enough, come on fuck off,
Get stuffed.
Well I took her one side, and we started chatting,
I said tell the lads that and I'll kick your twat in,
Now piss off back your mother's 'cos I've had enough,
Say another word, you'll get a boot up the chuff,
You're spotty and your ugly and you smaell like Billingsgate,
And then she mouths off in front of me mates...
But you told me that you loved me,
I never fucking did,
You used fer bring me flowers,
I said shut your fucking grid,
You acted dead sweet and you called me fluffy pup,
You can cook you can fuck you can do the washing up,
Now I've had enough, come on fuck off,
Get stuffed.
Well, I stormed off 'cos I were going crazy,
When I got to the chippy I had one foot in the gravy,
She got a seven foot dad,
Well just about,
And he was going to rip me liver out,
I said here you are grandad, your turn to hold her,
There's half a pint of gravy and a chip on me shoulder...
But you told me that you loved me,
I never fucking did,
You used fer bring me flowers,
Shut your fucking grid,
You acted dead sweet and you called me fluffy pup,
You can cook you can fuck you can do the washing up,
Now I've had enough, come on fuck off,
Get stuffed.
I said you can cook you can fuck you can do the washing up,
Now I've had enough, come on fuck off,
Get stuffed. ____________________ Current - Harley Davidson FXDB Street Bob | Harley Davidson FLTR Road Glide | Harley Davidson Road King

We want this people to be faithful, and you must learn fidelity. We want this people to be obedient, and you must practice obedience. We want this people to be peace-loving but also courageous, and you must therefore be peace-loving and at the same time courageous. We do not want this people to grow soft, but we want it to be hard so that it will be able to withstand the hardships of life. And for this you have to harden yourselves in your youth. You must learn to be hard, to stand privations without breaking down. We want this people to love honor and you already in the days of your youth must live up to this concept of honor.

Truly, this earth is a trophy cup for the industrious man. And this rightly so, in the service of natural selection. He who does not possess the force to secure his Lebensraum in this world, and, if necessary, to enlarge it, does not deserve to possess the necessities of life. He must step aside and allow stronger peoples to pass him by. |

Cease not your dancing, ye lovely maidens! No game-spoiler hath come to you with evil eye, no enemy of maidens.
God's advocate am I with the devil: he, however, is the spirit of gravity. How could I, ye light-footed ones, be hostile to divine dances? Or to maidens' feet with fine ankles?
To be sure, I am a forest, and a night of dark trees: but he who is not afraid of my darkness, will find banks full of roses under my cypresses.
And even the little God may he find, who is dearest to maidens: beside the well lieth he quietly, with closed eyes.
Verily, in broad daylight did he fall asleep, the sluggard! Had he perhaps chased butterflies too much?
Upbraid me not, ye beautiful dancers, when I chasten the little God somewhat! He will cry, certainly, and weep—but he is laughable even when weeping!
And with tears in his eyes shall he ask you for a dance; and I myself will sing a song to his dance:
A dance-song and satire on the spirit of gravity my supremest, powerfulest devil, who is said to be "lord of the world."— ____________________ "Life is a sexually transmitted disease and the mortality rate is one hundred percent."

Google "biker poem" and run with that.
Have a stooge planted ready to stand up and start slow-clapping once your finish.

How a bit of Shakespeare eh?
SONNET 116
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no; it is an ever-fixed mark,
That looks on tempests, and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved. ____________________ In everyday life good people do good things, bad people do bad things. It takes religion to make a good person do bad things. |

As in the update, would anyone mind giving an opinion on the best (couple) of these to use as a post speech (Rudyard Kipling's If) warmer... I will get them translated to Chinese first, then read them out dead pan, then read the English version. Should be a bit of comic relief.
But it's a wedding for some very boring motherfuckers. So I can't go too naughty.
(Any other good one liners I can translate, in the same vein as this, would be appreciated too - Confucious or not)

Confucius say… perfect gift for man who has everything, is a burglar alarm.
