Possible speeding ticket, address change...

Morning all,

I moved house a while back, cars were registered to old address for about a fortnight after the move. During that time, someone possibly got nabbed for speeding by a mobile camera van whilst driving one of my cars.

V5 was posted with address change the same day (new one now arrived back at new house), driving licence details changed online the same day, royal mail redirection set up same day... but with a 5 day delay before my post was redirected.

So... if the NIP came through in the first 5 days it would have been sent to old house and not redirected, so I'd have missed it, tried to contact new tenants in old house to no avail. It's been about a month and haven't heard anything.

Haven't had a speeding ticket before, so I don't know what happens and when, paperwork wise. If the first letter is not responded to, what happens? The first one is the "who was driving" request right?

Suggestions? Tempted to contact the scamera company, don't fancy a court appearance for not responding.

You could just go ask the new owners if they've received any brown envelopes with your name on them.

Could you stand up in court, look the magistrate in the eye and say that you've done everything reasonable to keep your records up to date with the DVLA? Yes? Then don't worry about it.

Worst case they'll send you threatening nudges before you end up in court and anything like that would be caught by your mail redirection.

Probably the case that whoever was driving your car wasn't going as fast as they thought they were.

I friend of mine swears blind he's been simply throwing NIPs (and the follow up threatening nudges) in the bin for years with no consequences.

Although how much of what he says is complete bollocks is anyones guess!

I ignored a NIP and they sent a man in a high vis jacket to my house!

I posted here somewhere. He was terribly decent about my little memory lapse, but he was not going to leave without my signature.

Busted, £100, points but he pointed out ignoring it can result in a heavy fine.

I got sent a NIP to my old address just after I'd moved. Didn't know anything about it for months, until I had to go to a Police shop for something or other, then got told, you might not be going home tonight, there's a warrant out for your arrest
