Hello BCF I'm currently restoring an old suzuki RG125UN wolf. Having just received the barrel back from re-plating I'm trying to put it together. I ordered two new thrust washers from the lovely people at the tuning works but I can only fit one. There is absolutely no clearance to fit both of them so my question is can I just fit the one? Will anything untoward happen by running only one thrust washer? Ta in advance. Thumbs Up

Where are they situated on the gearbox shafts? I have the same problem. When I bolt up the cases the shafts feel tight. Miss out a thrust washer & they are ok, I can move the shaft laterally the width of the washer so I know it should be there. The only thing I can think of is that the crank case gasket is half as thin as the original so I'm gonna fit two & keep the washer. Knowing my luck, the gearbox will either refuse, be noisy or work well until I get out of town & then wreak havoc... You may have to contend with trial & error which is a real bitch on a two stroke.

Hi thanks for the reply I should've said it's the ones on the piston itself sorry. I've got a feeling the small end bearing is too big although I ordered for the right bike.

No. its my fault I didn't read it properly. You mentioned the barrel so I should have known. If you leave 'em out you would get more lubrication to your wrist pin & if its too noisy its easy enough to dismantle & fit. Don't know why you have no clearance though. Could it be that the washers have been superceded by a larger pin. Give 'em a bell at TW & ask...

Thanks dude I'll try it without the washers as you say if it's too noisy or too much vibration I can always strip it again before the barrel gets wrecked a top end gasket set doesn't cost a great deal. I've a feeling it's more to do with the piston being too narrow where it fits to the gudgeon pin or the small end bearing is too wide (slightly). Both parts come off of eBay that should say it all really.

Is it possible to machine the inner surfaces of the piston down without weakening it? It's only out a few thou.

I wouldn't advise running without as the Suzuki's use the thrust washers to keep the condos in line ..ie massive big end side float compared to yams etc. Last batchof Suzuki pistons I got for the RGV were crap with under size ring grooves etc so wonder if you have a similar issue

Also forgot to add if it's had a replete that you need to either relieve the plating on the exhaust bridge or the piston at that point or you will be suffering seizure when it's hot! Depending on who sent it off for you....some do it for you...others don't so you'll need to do it yourself.
