They are not all the same . Although the Brazil 12 volt models look identical to early 6 volt ones .....and the zillions of China models....except electric start , there's lots of differences .
The lighting coils/ignition /cdi vary so changing for a later engine usually requires you to change the wiring loom.....and....switchgear ( unless you are an ocd electrician who's unemployed) .
Its also not so simple as to graft your present electrics/generator/lighting/ignition coils onto a China or later engine .
To be safe ( er) , stick to standard or get a donor bike . For the time and hassle it may be worth rebuilding the engine with new g box and crank bearings.
BE CAREFULL......CHINA ENGINES ARE NOT COMPATIBLE ,except for sidecasings and rocker covers. ____________________ nearly a normal tax paying tosser.......with ferrileness suzi100,cg125,cb125scb100n,cb175,cd100,cj250t,kh250,c15,125 bantam, super 6,rickman gs750,xt500,250rs,dt175,lifan125,dolomite1850,metro,Morris220ld,morrisfg,leyland princess, range rover, corsa,vw camper .now struggling with legs.
