Just thought I'd share my recent shit experience..

I had to work late last night so left the office around 8.30. As I was leaving it suddenly dawned on me that I had the dark visor fitted on the lid. Not completely sure what the legal consequences are for riding with dark visor at night (was cloudy so a lot darker than usual at the time) and of course the obvious lack of visibility, I got a bit worried.

No probs I thought, I'll just leave it up, it's only a half hour ride home and fewer bugs to splat at night anyway.

10 mins into the ride it started to piss down. Bearing in mind I was wearing my summer gear which is 70% mesh, I got soaked to the crack. But that was bearable because I then realised that at any speed above 20mph my face and eye balls felt like someone was sticking needles into it. The rain hitting me was so damn painful I could barely keep my eyes open. Got pretty close to some incidents due to not being able to see properly.

Managed to get home without dumping the bike and my eyes were bloodshot, I was cold and wet and very pissed off.

Lesson learned, always carry spare clear visor in bag if you use dark visors.

TL;DR - Rode in dark rainy evening with wrong gear. Was painful, cold, wet and a little bit dangerous.

Does your visor have tearoff pegs?

A good way round this problem is to have a clear visor with tinted/dark tearoff. I rode with tinted tearoff for years. Never got stopped, but I should imagine it is a dark-visor loophole i.e. it is not a dark visor, it is a tearoff, therefore like a set of sunglasses can be easily removed (roll it up and put it in your pocket) so immune from that particular bit of legislation!

They are cool because they sit closer to your eyes than a visor & your focus doesn't pick up the drops of water so no 'windscreen' effect. They are UV protective in sunlight & at night the yellow hue makes everything more distinct. They fit in a pocket & at £3.18 they're easily affordable if they break or get scratched up. They're also good for the garage...

Why not just get a helmet that has both visors? Internal tinted visor you can flip on the inside to protect from the sun, and a normal clear visor.

Still, I feel your pain, yesterday it suddenly started storming hard when I was out delivering pizzas and I hadn't treated the visor so it steamed up super fast (shitty work helmet) and my shitty work clothes soaked through. Shitty work bike with knives for tyres that weighs nothing was being blown all over the road by the wind too which was pretty scary.

Hmm probably a different size sun visor to my helmet cause mine covers pretty nice only the corners are visible otherwise it covers the main view.

I use fairy washing up liquid to repel rain XD I was surprised how well it works actually.

Nope not that I'm aware of o.O I mean I can see a slight rainbowy tint if I look really hard for it but it disappears after like 5 minutes after applying and then doesn't bother me at all.
