hi, i have done and oil and oil filter change on my klx250 and i have a tiny leak at the bottom of the oil filter cover. after riding few miles on it it has some oil at the cover connection.
what i did:
1) opening the oil plug draining thge oil
3) opening the filter cover
4) sinking the new oil filter in oil and oiling the filter cover o-ring with engine oil
5) replacing the filter with the new one while making sure the spring is in the middle
6) closing the cover and tightening the bolts
7) closing oil drain plug and pouring new oil inside

well never done it on KLX before and the spring thingy was annoying (lied the bike down for it)
what did i miss? it didnt leak before

You don't appear to have missed anything. Everything that you did was by the book and word perfect.
Are you sure that the 'o' ring was intact? For the relatively small cost involved, I always discard and replace such items.
The only other thing that springs to mind is that Kwakasaki recommend that grease be used to hold the 'o' ring in place during re-assembly as opposed to simply coating it in engine oil.
As a side note, I've never been comfortable with just two screws holding the oil filter cover in place. I reckon that it ought to have three.
