Hi Guys,

So i've had the cbf for 4 months, got it at 6000 miles, I've done another 4000 in that time. I've changed the oil twice, changed the spark plug, regularly maintain the chain.

Today after about 20 miles it stalled at the lights, restarted ok but half a mile later felt a jolt and a very loud knocking noise started from the engine, felt like a little bit of power was lost, knocking continues when ticking over.

From my very limited engine knowledge I suspect something in the top end? If so, would it be safe to ride it about 27 miles home? and cost to fix roughly?

Thanks

What is the oil level right now? IIRC these have been known to burn oil.

That sounds like a big end from the description. Sad

As above check your oil level.

It's a liitle on the low side, but still got a small covering on the dipstick.

So one of the guys at my work has had a listen and from experience (and without stripping it down) and by how loud the slapping noise is he thinks it may a big end bearing issue.

Contemplated riding it home... for about 3 secs, so got a man with van to pick it for £45 in the end.

Will strip it down with my dad at the weekend and see what damage there is Sad

Cracked clutch basket, need another clutch cover gasket as well, better than a bottom end issue

Can you remove the clutch basket and start it up again... make sure the noise goes before putting cash into it.
