I have a Yamaha DTR 125 Fitted with a 170 Athena Top end, Has done 1500 Miles since the Kit was fitted along with a full rebuild, I replace the airfilter and spark plug every 500 miles, and I did my last gearbox oil change at 1000 (planning on doing one every 1000 miles), I run the bike on expensive oil, and always maintain it! Let it warm up properly! I have a KX 125 and normaly do a top end rebuild at around 40 hours.

Q. Just woundering if anyone knows how often I should do one on my DTR in terms of miles?

It's geared for the road, I don't use the bike off-road as I converted it to Supermoto! The bike is all set up correctly!

Is it a plated bore or one with a liner?
And do you pre-mix or use pumped lubrication.

It's my understanding that most of these 125cc BBK's don't actually rev that hard, usually less than the std bike does, for several reasons.

Therefore if it's all set up right, ignition timing, plug grade, fuel grade for the compression ratio, and jetting then i'd expect top end service intervals to be much the same as std?

Id want to be doing a top end strip and re-build every 10000miles on a full power 125 in the state of tune of something like the DTR etc.

The issue to keep your eye on with a 170cc big bore conversion IMO is the bottom end of the motor. I'd expect you to be halving the life of the crank assembly at least.

It is a plated bore, and yes that's right they dont Rev as high, I am running it off the oil pump, I have been advised to run premix, but I'm lazy and mixing 2stroke at every fuel stop is annoying! The oil pump is all working and is fully setup!

250ML bottle of nail varnish and then mark out 125ML with a bit of duct tape. Then fill it and put it in each 5 Litres. The DT only holds about 8 litres. Very easy to do and not that time consuming. I only do it due to my oil pump packing up and killing my engine.
