basically its going to be in the lounge controlling the tv, but the mrs needs something to go on while im watching shos etc,
and something we can take away in the camper,

my requirements

must be atleast 10" display
should have decent speakers built in
must have external memory card slots

The 3 is easily available for under £200 quid

What are you planning to do with all that ram in a tablet? If you want a 'performance' machine, you're probably better off getting another laptop.

I've had the original Note 10.1 for a year and a bit now. Really good, I like it, has the remote option.

It cost me 330 back then so should be closer to £200 now, especially with the newer variants being released.

ram, nothing really, but i like my stuff to last more than a year, i have 1 gig in my phone ad its not really enough, im having to kill apps to keep it all running smoothly,

why would i get the tab, when the note has better specs for the same price,
am i missing something about the tab??

Nothing really, except that the note you'd actually want would be the 2014 model which will set you back £400.

Compared to the tab, the 2012 note has a slightly inferior processor and screen and supports less codecs as standard. Not much in it really!

simplyelectronics

Just a heads up on Simply.

They are NOT a UK based co like they imply. They are based out in HK. Notice they may display a UK tel No. But NO UK ADDRESS. Often while saying they have stock they do not. Often not delivering goods either.
Getting refunds can be a nightmare.
So you may well not be getting UK stock and as such can have issues with warranties.

Prices

We cannot confirm the price of a product until you order. It is possible that the price for a product may increase or decrease between the time that the product is placed in a shopping cart and the time the purchase is actually made

Clearly a Co that does not hold any stock then.... And possibly sourcing from where ever they can...

right, bit the bullet and went for the note 10.1" (not the 2014 model as thats double the price)
and really the only difference is a better screen and a wee bit better processor, slightly better camera, slightly bigger battery, 3gb ram over 2gb
comparison here
all in all the 2014 is slightly better in every reguard, but not twice the price better

https://www.ijtdirect.co.uk/41662/ £186 delivered
which, met all my demands, with £14 to spare
seems weird that the note would be way better specc'd than the tab, but still be cheaper

This should be good, I have the Sero7 and it seems fast and reliable.
(on offer just now)
They've removed a few useful bits to keep cost low, e.g. the 7 has miniHDMI
