Another one of these threads!
Found a note this morning saying that someone had broken my light. They left a number and said to contact them and they'd pay for it.
However there is more damage. The exhaust can has taken a hit and the mirror has had it as well. There's also damage to the edge of the front mudguard and a mark on the engine casing where the brake pedal has been pushed in.
All these things lead me to believe that it's been pushed over to the opposite side to the sidestand (rather than just being nudged into as I first thought when I read the note). What should my next course of action be? Obviously the light and mirror need replacing. I don't really care about the engine casing or the mudguard. As for the exhaust can, it was only a couple of months old and was almost mint before this. Am I entitled to ask for all of this to be replaced and if they aren't game then go through insurance?
What's the procedure for doing this? I'd be happy to replace all of the damaged stuff myself (partly because it's easy and partly because I'd want to keep their costs down) so if it were to go through insurance do I just need to order stuff and send their insurer receipts? What's the threshold for writing off a bike? It's probably only worth £800 or so!
Any help appreciated!

Why police?
If the guy offers details of insurance or agrees to meet costs then no offence has been committed as contact details were left at the scene.
might be worth getting examples of costs so that when you contact him it hopefully goes;
"I'm afraid there was a bit more damage than just the light"
"What else?"
"This stuff, I've had a look on e-bay for used parts to keep costs down, would come to ££"
"Yeh, ok / I'll have to go through insurance then"
Having spoken to someone else's insurance about sorting my bike, they're probably quite open to you saying "I've had a look for used parts just want to get it fixed" ____________________ Looking to pass your CBT / Bike tests in Bury Lancashire? try www.focusridertraining.co.uk Would recommend.

Spoken to the person. It was a lady dropping her kids off at school. She meant to reverse but went forward instead...
She seemed worried when I mentioned other damage, but I did say I'd try to keep costs down as much as possible. Light and mirror will cost a pittance, it's just the can that was essentially new and I want that sorted. What are my options when it comes to this? Am I able to just change the end can and if so would that be significantly cheaper than the whole system? I believe it was this system:
