Been fixing local yout' mans bike, a Mito. Don't have any to do with the young estate druggies as a rule but got collared by his mum in Tesco buying engine oil. I'll spout my bullshit & ask questions later. It was stolen/recovered at some stage - the perps ripped out the immob & some other wiring but I don't think they got it running as they just smashed the petrol cap & tap off, nicked the juice & left it. So the tank has rusted inside which I sorted with some white vinegar, soaked it, flushed it all through with petrol along with the carb, fitted a fuel filter, cleaned & rebuilt the air filter with no leaks, fixed all the wiring, plug's good & it starts easy & runs but it ain't running right. It needs choke & when I kill the choke it either dies or starts trying to rev its nuts off. Dicking around with the choke cable & idle screw I've managed a compromise but it I don't know a lot about the choke mech on Dellortos specifically or two strokes in general. The problem is possibly compounded elsewhere - the reed block shows signs of cracking & it needs bump start 'cos the tea leafs have dropped the bike on the left side, bust the plate & stripped the starter gear teeth.

So how much influence on smooth running has the reed block? Has anyone got one or a starter gear bendix thing &/or plate lying around or breaking a Mito? The bike has an Arrow pipe. Does it need cleaning or re-packing? Is the rev counter electric or manual? Anyone recommend a London retailer of sporty Italiano Mito gubbins? Thumbs Up

It needs the reed block to work properly.

You need to take it to an expert really I think, but if you want parts try Mitomondo.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Muchas gracias gents. Thumbs Up What I should have said was would it run at all if the reed block was fubar? I only ever had a couple of two strokes, a Vespa, an MZ & a YB100 - two stroke bikes ain't really my thing but this Mito is quite nippy & fun to ride. The reed block was the only thing I couldn't fix apart from the bendix thing. Don't have the tool to remove it, its them stupid Allen bolts with the little knob in the middle that prevents a standard Allen key Rolling Eyes

Hi

Surprised they used anti tamper type allen key bolts as standard.

With the cracks it will depend on how bad they are. You can also get similar problems when the main bearing seals are worn (they then allow air into the crankcases leaning the mixture off).

All the best

Keith
