Hi i have recently bought a Peugeot Speedfight 100cc 2002, and its a 2 stroke, theres something wrong with it every week! The subject i need advice with today is the kick start, i dont know alot about bikes so would appreciate your help.

When i try start the bike with the kick start there is no pressure what so ever and it doesnt do a thing or make a sound? what is the likely cause of this problem? I dont want to take it apart before i get advice as i dont want to make it worse

A kickstart only engages when you push it down, usually by a cog sliding on a helix and engaging with an opposite similar cog. Often there's a spring clipped onto a groove in the cog that causes drag and produces the sliding motion. If this spring is broken, the kickstart won't engage.

And here you go, it uses the system I described.

https://www.scooternations.com/showthread.php?558-speedfight-kick-start-mech

Using the kickstart turns the large quadrant. This turns the helical gear and WOULD turn the pinion except it's held by friction from the spring so it slides up the helix. Once it hits the ramped dogs it can slide no more and HAS to turn, which also turns the engine. If the spring is a loose fit or has been over-heated it won't hold the pinion and the pinion won't slide into engagement. Similarly if the pinion is sticking to the helical shaft it'll turn instead of sliding.
