Hi

I'm trying to replace the keyboard on a Samsung NP370R5E laptop (2013 model).

I've taken the laptop apart and removed the motherboard, heatsink etc etc

What I have now is a metal plate holding the keyboard in place which also holds the sockets for the case screws to go into.

This plate is held in place by plastic "rivets" that look like they need to be broken off in order to remove it.

If I break these off then I'll need to glue the plate back in place afterwards.

Has anyone ever replace a keyboard on one of these?

It's the first time I've come across a laptop that looks designed to make you scrap it if the keyboard breaks.

I had no problem buying a replacement keyboard by the way.

Piccie of plate attached.

Thanks

Mark

I generally don't bother unless I can get my hands on an entire palm rest + keyboard assembly.

Awful awful bit of design.

Melt them with a soldering iron, remove the plate, switch the keyboard, put the plate back on and remelt them to mushroom the end over.

Will give that a go, thanks.

The keys poke through holes in the case so it has to be removed from the inside - the palm rest is part of the casing.

I've not had a 370 in yet, but it looks like a recoloured NP300V5A. The entire top plate comes off as a whole right? Keyboard, touchpad and palm rest as well as the strip above the keyboard with the power button?

The soldiering iron to the plastic tags is worth a try for sure.

It's Samsung making their laptops as disposable as they can manage frankly. Both HP and Dell have laptops with similar designs and all the ones I've had open have had a mass of tiny screws holding the keyboard firmly to the top plate.

Hard drive out then bottom of the case comes off. Unclip cables, remove heatsink/fan, battery (screwed in place!), USB board and motherboard.

Then peel off a black plastic sheet which I guess is providing insulation and you're left with the plate over the keyboard.

Well that went well!

Not only was the plate held down by the plastic "pegs", so was the keyboard itself.

Got the plate and keyboard out but the new one wouldn't sit securely in place so I'll be replacing the laptop for the customer.

Last one of those I'll touch.
