never actually ridden one but I am told the can fairly shift. Well enough to give you a fright. Two of my mates have them and both reckon the suspension leaves a lot to be desired (especially the front forks). Fix this and they handle well.

Came accross these the other day when surfing, korean made copy, four grand brand new!

Well I've ridden the SV650, and they handle amazingly well, the handling is so postive and easy, just point it and away it goes.

They also have enough power (about 70BHP) and can easily spin up to illegal speeds quite easily, restricting one doesn't do any harm and its hardly noticable but it does affect acceleration and top speed alot though.

I've also had the chance to ride the GT650 Comet from Hyosung, its basically an SV650 with a different badge but the brakes on it are something left t be desired and vibration is more intrusive than the suzuki (but this may have been down to the Comet I rode had only 270miles on it)

Seats on an SV650 are shit, with very little room underneath. Fitting a scottoiler takes up most of it.

Also check seat height for short arses, especially the pillion seat.

Other than that, a good bike, quick and nimble, if a bit of a girls bike.

Plenty of aftermarket bits and bobs to pretty it up a bit.

Well i am 5ft 11 and have decent length legs, if i cant fit on something i dont imagine many can Wink

I was looking into some aftermarket bits as the first thing i thought when i saw one was "Who nicked the bellypan Question "

https://www.kliktronic.co.uk/Suzuki%20SV650%20side.jpg

looks to be a VAST improvement to me.
Its not really my bike of coice, but the old man is paying a big chunk so naturally he wants an old mans bike :<
I want something with fairly low insurance which will also allow me to vent the hooligan inside

I can't knock the SV, if anything i miss my old one.

https://goldwing.bikepics.com/suz-sv650s-01-bikepics-19553.jpg

The restrictor is a couple of washers that fit into the intake. Mine never made it into the bike, so im not sure what its like to ride there after.

You won't regret buying one if you do, they are loads of fun. Sound great with a can on too!

yes that was from a pretty good shop around, judging from a few places refusing to insure me and others giving stupidly high quotes i think £1400 is about as low as it will go.

stupid really as i was quoted £390 for a 600 ninja Confused

I shall informa to old bloke and start hunting for a nice VFr, thats for the help anyway (PS nice bike Very Happy)

I used to have an SV650S,
It was quick and light, it handled well for a budget bike and was amazing fun.

Harris (the famous GP frame buliders) took an SV650 frame and tried to improve upon it for Supertwins racing. They couldn't.

The Sv650 can be reliably bored out to 800cc and they wheelie and stoppie well as stock.

The brakes are two piston sliding calipers, but they work well as the bike is light. The suspension is budget but works reasonably as stock. I think that if the suspension was radically improved, the bike would out handle a lot of more expensive bikes!
They are also very comfortable and they have great fuel consumption. There are also loads of accessories available for tuning/tarting and practicality.

The main downside to them is the usual suzuki problem of corrosion. I bought mine new and rode it through winter. And then cried. The other slight niggle is that if you want to fit an end can, you have to cut off the original. However, they sound FANTASTIC with a race can, and they are not offensively loud.

I say, go with it and have fun! Very Happy

age matters a HELL of alot. my dad has got 0 NCB (gave it to my mum when the split up)
His car insurance is £100 per year, for me to be put on his insurance would cost £870 per year thats an 8.7 times increase purely because of age.

DaFrosty... If I can insure a Firestorm with a TT99 on my licence for less than you can insure an SV then you are doing something wrong. Granted mine is only TPO, but it's still cheaper than what you are getting quoted on a bike with just over half the capacity! I say get Danny to have a ring around for you... I'm sure you will be suprised. Smile

I mean, Susi was getting TPFT quotes for less than that on an SV and she has no NCB, no licence (yet) and lives opposite a really nasty estate in central london, keep trying mate, I'm certain you can get less than that! Thumbs Up

*edit* Both Susi and myself are 20 too....

Thanks MarJay, I'm definately going to get one now. I've been pondering whether to get the SV650S or a sporty 400 (NC30 or NC35) for a while now, and with your advice and others (cheers again Frosty Thumbs Up ) I've made up my mind. Just got to book my DAS now. Right, where's the number for RMT...

My insurance budget is what i can sell my current bike for + a little extra cash. probably a shade over £500. yeah with alot of ringing around i could no doubt drop that quote to sub £1000, but thats still double what i can afford.

Ive been quoted £390 on a 600 ninja and £450ish for a VFR400, which is what i shall most likely start shopping for.

I had a 2000 SV650s at 18 with 2 years NCB for £500ish TPF&T. That was with Motorcycle Direct who covered me to ride other bikes too.

I would have thought you would be able to insure the SV650 cheaper than a VFR400 as VFR is in a higher insurance group. Try motorcycle direct online if you haven't already!
