I'm turning right from Shoreditch into Great Eastern Street, which is a one way so both lanes head in the same direction.
My rear facing camera captures this little altercation between a biker and a police car, I can't make up my mind who's cocked-up the right turn?

(about twenty seconds in)

Yea but the police car looks like it's heading for the inside lane then changed his mind.

the police car took a bit of a wide line through the corner, which made me think nthat he was going into the left hand lane (from his perspective). that's probably what the biker thought, but it turned into him cutting up the inside of the police car.

personally i think the biker was in the wrong, as being a police car, i would have given it a wide berth. that said, no harm no foul, so the copper was a bit of a knob for pulling him Thumbs Down

IIRC you should be on the inside lane whenever possible (Highway code #143 and #160). Obviously exceptions exist (like if that two lane street was signed left/right lane for left/right at end).

So I'd say copper got it wrong, did appear indecisive and to change lanes. Police car overtaken correctly. Biker appeared to stay more in right hand lane.

Errr, for the inside biker would have to passed on left.

Just my thoughts.

P.S. what camera?

The biker. That was just a bit daft; I'd have waited behind the police car there.

Dibble took the corner too wide. Biker was stupid for doing anything but hanging back while the panda car made whatever manoeuvre it decided it was going to do.

I suspect Dibble was aiming for the left lane then changed his mind. Finding himself embarrassed and surprised by the presence of a bike in the lane he was drifting into, he saved face by giving the biker a lecture.

I agree, when he saw the lorry in that lane further on he tried to cut back without checking properly.

unfortunately the biker - the police car has made rather wide turn however still been in the turn lane and there is only one lane there so mystery solved Laughing

Probably I would have done the same not to police car though...

I reckon the biker was in the wrong, may look a bit harmless but there's a lot of what-ifs when overtaking anyone on a corner. Usually if I'm not sure which lane the car was picking or what the car intended to do I would just stay behind it until I'm sure..

Also common sense would dictate that doing that to a copper isn't the smartest idea anyway xD

Police car heads for left lane. Motorcycle overtakes him. Police see bus ahead and decide to move into right lane. Police got a fright initially because they hadn't seen the bike until it appeared in front of them, then butthurt because they know both their obs and road positioning sucked. Then rationalised to themselves that they couldn't possibly be in the wrong because they are the police innit?

I didn't see either party do anything wrong in terms of road traffic law. The polices standard of driving left a lot to be desired. I would have told them this had they stopped me in similar circumstances

What did the biker get pulled for? I doubt that it was anything that we saw in that footage.
He wasn't to be seen in any of the footage immediately prior to coming alongside the cops. Had they witnessed him riding like a prat out of the camera's view? He did seem to appear out of 'nowhere'.

I wonder who's got the most thorough knowledge of road traffic laws... Mr Stinky, Mr Borg, a traffic cop or a magistrate. Thinking

On second thoughts, let's add T.C into the conversation to up the ante.

If they'd made contact, arry could get involved. Wink

There's no specific statute covering that. Either party could be considered as driving without due care and attention, or reasonable consideration, (or both), which is now disposable of with a FPN. I'd consider it a racing incident.

Raffles wrote:

Good obs.

11 seconds, no bike.

19 seconds, bike.

Where from?

Butthurt though.

50/50. no signal from popo (or is it a right turn only, can't tell), but even in the case that the biker anticipated that he (the peeler) was going straight on, i'm sure that there's something in the highway code about not overtaking whilst going through a junction.

that was a traffic car, so camera'd up to fuck. I'd have been well out of the way.

EDIT: looks like RTO, biker 100% at fault.

They're both faggots

Biker shoulda waited 0.333333 seconds and followed the cop instead of ragging by him, though i'd probably do the same

Not really worth the time saved vs the risk, cops are bound to be nobbers
