Well not a good day today had my test in Lincoln at 10:25 this morning,

I was greeted by the examiner who went through my paperwork then came out to the bike with me, I kitted up as he wrote the registration down then he gave me my first instruction, everything in this area should be treated as if on a real road ensuring all observations are made correctly.

then

go through the gate and park in one of the bays facing the fence turn off the engine and place the bike on it stand and wait for further instruction. No problem and off I went he came over and asked me to do the manual handling, no problem did it 3 point turn style with lots of over exaggerated checks.

Slalom and figure of 8 - Off I went through the slalom like a professional on skis and into the figure of 8, two turns later and im being called over all is going well.

Slow Ride - Easy peasy exactly what it says on the tin.

U-Turn - I have heard a lot of people worried about this so I have practiced, practiced and practiced some more in a local car park, a few checks and I pull away, a quick glance over the shoulder and begin to turn.......that's when it happened for some unknown reason whilst I was turning not enough power and my foot went down Sad I was absolutely gutted I knew it was all over Sad

I carried on with the rest of the test knowing I had failed performed the controlled stop with ease than was asked to turn the bike round facing the cones as I was near the U-turn area decided to do it within the lines (just to prove I could), then onto the emergency stop round I went but never made the speed so had to try again (once again a U-turn within the lines) round the second time no problem.

Finally onto the hazard avoidance round the cones I went 47kph so round again (another U-turn within the lines, by this point im hoping he can see I had done 3 and it was just nerves but sadly no Sad ) second time on the hazard avoidance 51kph.

To cut a long story short that one nervous mistake on the U-turn has now cost me another £110 for a re-test that they cant get me in for at either Scunthorpe or Lincoln till the end of August.

Feel really gutted and disappointed, really wanted this so much now it all seems like its gone to sh*t. Sad

That is a bit expensive. If I recall our mod 1 test fee and bike/instructor hire is around £65. The mod one is only £16 or there abouts.

Guessing you're on a training school's bike not your own?

It sounds as though you know what you're doing so you could get and use your own bike for tests, however, if you're going for over 125cc you'd need to get it to / from tests.

Sorry to read this Stan. Hang in there, stay positive and have another crack at it.

Truth be told if I had to do the test today I'd almost certainly fail.

Yeh I realise that Daffyd will have to find someone who can ride it there for me or hire a van for the day and lob it in the back I suppose, even van hire is cheaper than £110 for the day.

Oh man, same mistake I made. And then at the end the examiner tells you if it weren't for that you would have passed, right?

I failed mine putting a boot down in the u-turn, second attempt it was a lovely u-turn but failed on something else. I do recall someone said they had to do it nine times to pass so it could be worse!

I've got my MOD 1 booked on the 10 Aug and have been told by my instructor that putting your foot down isn't an automatic fail and you could get away with it a few times before the examiner will fail you

Sorry to tell you my friend but its an instant fail its classed as a major fault not a riding fault, so keep your feet on the pegs and good luck.

if it makes you feel any better, on my mod1 for unbeknown reason i put my foot down during the figure of 8...i dunno why i did as i wasnt wobberling, going too slow it just happened

to say i was gutted was an understatement but...i used the first mod1 as practised an passed the 2nd time like a boss

also that seems way to expensive. is it worth looking outside your area to do it, tests are exactly the same where ever you go

an good luck Thumbs Up

When I did it I was told that a tiny dab / scrape of your toes whilst under control could be considered a minor, but if your foot properly goes down in order to stabilise the bike then it's a major fault = fail.

Steve.

Good luck on the retest fella and chin up Thumbs Up

Would it count if you lost your balance and stuck your foot out momentarily but didnt actually put your foot on the ground? Would that be a riding fault or major fault?

Got my mod1 coming up on the 7th, though I'm pretty confident in U turns, it's just the E-Stop I'm a little nervous about.

Generally speaking if you 'lose your balance' it's down to the examiner's discretion as to whether or not he feels you are in full control of the vehicle at the time.

'Dabbing' your foot down is a fail unless you happen to have a very lenient examiner that's in a good mood that day. Otherwise, don't have it in your head that it's 'ok' to do it just perform the maneuvers safely and show adequate skill and control as required.
