Hi all,
I've picked up a Genny for general messing around, and it only chucks out 110v. I'm looking for a transformer to step up to 240v, I can only find them going the other way. Am I being stupid?

It's exactly the same thing wired the other way round. Step-down becomes step-up when wired backwards. I have one wired as an autotransformer to give out 290Vac.

So I can use a step down, swap input + output and that'll work? Might be cheaper option. Thanks

If you do it right! You'll need to change the std 3 pin plug (230v) to a socket, and wire a 110 plug onto the other side.

If you go the lazy route and have a 110 lead with a plug on either end, you should be aware that, it isn't (strictly speaking) safe depending on how careful you are / who else may be about.
