My Ducati fairings are fading slightly, epically the ones that are not glossy.

Does anyone know how I can get the red colour back?
I vaguely remember being told that a heat gun and dragging a razor blade over them would do it?

Bonus question: Why do red panels fade the most? I imagine it's to do with the longer wavelength that is absorbed by the red.

Other way around I think. Red absorbs the shorter wavelength light, which has more energy, causing a fade.

I think a good quality polish and wax can help restore a bit of the shine to the surface, and thereby helping with the perception of colour 'depth'

Right, my mistake, red is longer wavelength so absorbs the shorter wavelength.

And thanks for the advice Thumbs Up

Shocked

Out of interest, what Ducati? I've got a 1995 916 (red) fairings haven't faded.

It's a 1993 900SS

It's only the piece under the rear grab handle and it's faded quite a bit, possibly aftermarket part but the rest is fine.

T-cut then a good polish.

Red fades badly it comes up well with a polish.
