Honda cg125 starter motor?

I have a 06 cg125 in generally good condition. I use it 2-3 times a week about 15 miles total a week.

The other day I started the engine no problem, then I had it turn off after 5 secs to make myself heard! When I tried to restart, I just got a click sound.

After some research I decided that the starter motor needed cleaning so I took it off opened it and cleaned it. Didn't seem that dirty though. Not an easy process but I managed although I'm not 100 per cent certain I put it back together again properly. I think I did though, everything fits!

However I still get the click. Battery is at 100 per cent, just charged it from about 90 per cent so can't be that. Spark plug is 6 months old.

Not sure what to do next. Thinking of buying a new starter motor from ebay and trying it.

Any advice? Maybe I didn't clean it properly or put it back together properly, the starter motor has quite a few washers etc inside.

Sounds more like the relay if your sure the battery is 100% A-ok. To test I would grab a bit thick wire, touch one end on the battery + and the other on the starter + ( starter + is the bolt that holds the big chunky wire on )

Hi

There should be a starter solenoid under the seat area , follow the positive cable from the battery as it goes from the battery to the solenoid before reaching the starter motor.

The click will be from the starter solenoid.

Either your battery is cack, the wiring from + to solenoid is cack or the starter has died.

Assuming the battery is AOK
the first thing I'd do is briefly short the two cable terminal nuts on the solenoid together with a screwdriver blade or pliers
(In neutral of course)

If the motor spins up nicely, the solenoid is at fault
and may have burn out contacts
Or
sometimes the energising coil does not get sufficient current to throw and hold the contacts together.
this can be due to poor contacts/connectors
burnt out starter button
damaged wiring
bad neutral switch not grounding

If it doesnt spin up, test the starter directly from the battery as mentioned above, ie thick cable/jump lead from battery +
to motor terminal

bad earthing from engine to frame or bad earth lead connections
can cause problems

A lot of Honda starter motors rely on the brush plate having good contact with the starter body to function well
many folk check the brushes but overlook this.
Anytime you whip out/service a starter motor, its always best to bench test it on a battery before refitting, it can save time in the long run.

Ain't you got a kickstart? I never used me leccy start & it done exactly the same as yours. Was a lazy solenoid & the connection in the headlight was duff too so it was intermittent on the starter button...

I did the solenoid tests above, appears to be OK as the engine still won't start.

I didn't have thick thick wire, but I have speaker cable so I used that to connect positive battery to positive on the starter. I got an unexpected spark! Yikes.

Engine didn't start though. Not sure where to go from here tbh.

Did you get a big spark when you shorted the solenoid terminals?
If so and the engine didnt spin up you need to whip the starter motor out again
