So as if failing mod 1 wasnt enough I fell off my work bike today after delivering a pizza to a customer (little honda innova 125) this was only a few hours ago haha and it wasn't a big off I was going like 20 round a corner and just slid out, I thought I would be more like scared but it was more just "oh shit" then brushed myself off and laughed. Sort of slid down the road cause it was wet like few metres, picked the bike up and gave the dude watching out his window a thumbs up.

I dunno what caused it I didn't touch the brakes but im sure I felt the front go down first because it spun a bit when my leg was under it but not in the direction it would have if it was the rear tyre sliding out. These pizza bikes are terrible condition though, mechanic comes round once a month, doubt he'll notice a bent foot peg XD the tyres are like bicycle fricking tyres and I doubt they have their pressures checked at all.

So yeah, how has your week been so far bcf Laughing

I crashed an Innova back in May and again Thursday night (chain broke). If your back box is green we have the same shitty evening job. Though at 29 the fact I do it probably means I've failed at life Laughing

Get yourself checked out in May I thought I'd just bust a couple of ribs so didn't bother. I'm now popping tramadol like it's haribo and spend 2 sessions a week being tortured by a physio because my back and leg are fucked.

Could of been Diesel.

Or the customer lubing the road up in order to grab free pizza's while you're knocked unconscious.

Mine's blue, but yeah same shit different toilet. Nah I'm fine, no damage to me what-so-ever, only a small tear on the uniform and scratched glove palms and a giggle.

I hope I wont be doing this job when I'm 29, but the way things are going who fucking knows right :') it looks like I'll still be delivering pizzas even after uni. Tbh though if I'm gonna be on pain pills before I'm 30 cause of the job that's worrying XD especially cause when I'm on the pizza bike I ride like a dick and that makes it 99% more likely.

Matt I reckon it definitely was the customer, he seemed iffy.. His plan failed though, he paid for the pizzas and his trap sprung as I left. But really, I didn't see any oily patchy things on the floor.

Anyway I just got home.. to top it all off tonight my mum parked right in front of the pavement bit that I park on to tie my bike to the lamp post almost blocking it off, so I had to go up a mini incline of wet grass.. Fucking bad idea, the rear wheel ALMOST started spinning, got the front & rear brake on, slowly tried again and managed it, what a heart stopping moment. Not that I'm worried it'd fall on the grass, but it'd slide right back into the road if I dropped it there. Thank fuck I didn't though, but still pissed off cause there's like 4 other places to park and she chose there.

Come to think of it, I experienced this same thing a few weeks ago when it was raining heavily and I was out on delivery, and I stupidly went bolting up a steep hill of grass to cut across this car park forgetting that pizza bike tyres hate anything that isn't very grippy tarmac.. Got about 3 ft up, rear wheel starts spinning, grab front brake because dumbass, front locks ofcourse, start rolling backwards, somehow manage to save it and slowly roll back down the hill ruining all of the grass and leaving a tyre track up it. Had to take the long way round anyway XD

People didn't stop ordering right up until last delivery 0:55 :S I need to unwind.

Do you not have to check the bikes every shift? Check lights/horn are working, tyre condition/pressure etc?

Dominos I presume since you say its an Innova. I would put money on it actually that you have to do those checks and serious consequences (potentially losing their job!) for the manager if those checks aren't carried out correctly.

Cause could be anything from diesel on the road to just plain loss of grip on wet road. The tyres are thin and pretty hard so they don't have much grip at the best of times, they're not very progressive either, go from getting you round the corner to suddenly losing grip and the front washing out, without much warning of impending disaster.

At least you're ok though.

It seems logical to check the bikes over every shift, and I always give it the once over before setting off on any delivery, but for any actual fixes we have to inform our manager and he'll get the mechanics to come the next day. We aren't really supervised or watched when it comes to the bikes, it's like they don't give a shit at all haha they're just a tool and it's normal for things to run this way.

We actually fill in a daily chart at the end of each shift ticking off the conditions of the bike (brakes, lights, tyres etc) - Well we're supposed to do that... What actually happens is we get last week's or the week before's sheet to fill out all at once to point out any defects meaning they usually go unnoticed by management for at least 1 or 2 weeks.

We also don't have tools in store for small fixes. Come to think of it, the only thing I found was like a half broken grabby thing I used to fix different mirrors onto my pizza bike when the old ones got wobbly and loose. The bikes for the most part are ignored & battered, and unless something major happens to them, they're never fixed fully, all of it is quick fixes and ignored/move on to more important things.

I still need my indicators sorting after like 2 months of them fucking about, they sometimes dont blink so I need to cancel them and re apply them until they start blinking.

Not really complaining though, it's an easy job, and the bikes do what they're supposed to despite being on the bare minimum side of safety.

Is it a franchise store rather than a company-owned one?

It sounds like whoever is running it is in serious breach of HASWA if that is how things are done.

I'd take extra caution tbh, it doesn't sound like anyone else has got anyones back so make doubly sure you've got your own back.

That stuff is standard across the industry. My first crash probably would have not happened if the brakes had worked properly and I had been writing that on the check sheet and verbally telling the manager for 2 months before it happened (and they still are buggered). Thursday night chain snapping I had also written down for over a week and verbally made noise about the state of the chain.

They get away with it and know they can. I talked to a legal firm who said they are in breach of employer liability but good luck finding anyone to take the case as the odds of winning in these cases are miniscule.

I hope to quit it in the next 18 months. It's mostly just something to make some extra money while doing an OU degree, keeps the ZZR with a full tank and decent rubber.

Makes 2 of us! I guess it must be a common Innova fault.

What WR said XD its pretty normal for things to operate like that, but yeah I have my own back in the workplace. Spotting areas that give tips and seeing other drivers jump for them when it's your delivery, gotta keep a watchful eye. Or drivers not signing back in when there's a shitty delivery listed (like 15th floor of an estate) and waiting for you to sign in before they do.. Blah blah the list goes on.

Iain yeah it's pretty fun to nip about as a night job on some bikes and get paid for it. Try find a mainstream delivery shop like pizza hut, dominos, or papa johns that has a small area of delivery. The wider it is the more likely they use car and you do multiple drops at once.

Also exactly the same reason I do the job, purely for the bike while I'm at uni XD

Then you find the phone number for the area manager and call them.

And call head office of the company.

Using the stores phones of course.

And keep calling until something gets done. Eventually you'll piss someone high up off so much they'll sort it. And if they don't and you lose hours or get fired then that is constructive dismissal or automatically unfair dismissal.
