After a thorough soaking last week my Arai smells like wet dog so I started the usual looking round trying to get a new one only to find they had shot up considerably in price. After being messed around by one shop I made a few calls and it was suggested I give Helmet City down in Kent a call.

Spoke to a chap there by the name of Adam who took my details and then did a complete stock check of their discounted Arais and called me back with a list of what they had as a lot of stock had been shifted to Birmingham for the show.

I decided to drive down to Kent to pick up my Helmet and the deal was done in a few minutes. They have a good sized shop that is rather out of the way with good stocks of most major brands of crash helmets incorporating most sizes and colours so no messing about.

So if you after a new Arai they have them from £220 upwards with many other brands at discount prices.

No I'm not being paid for this Wink

I got one of these...

Another thumbs-up for Helmet City from me, too.

I bought my current helmet there a couple of years ago, spending well over an hour in there trying on pretty much everything they had.

They really wanted to make sure I went away with something that fitted me perfectly – not just make a quick sale from someone whose lid-knowledge had a few gaps.

Thumbs Up

While I was at the NEC I was looking at the Arai quantum GT on the Arai stand, I had the chance to try 1 on, but found the fit required that I need a large size, but I need the cheek pads from a medium to get the fit right, which I`m told are 5mm thicker than those of the large size. for this reason I decided not to buy from the stalls at the NEC, & instead contact a few stores to see if they can help me with the mix & match sizing above

No I got a new crash helmet because the one I had after being used for 4+ years in all weathers, thats more than twice as long as you've had a license having been washed several times and having the cheek pads replaced started to stink after 4 hours and 165 miles of driving through heavy weather that resulted in places like Bristol flooding.

Hope that clears it up for you.

Laughing To his credit that was pretty witty for a n00b.

Tbh I'm not appreciating this ad:
https://www.helmetcity.co.uk/products/MT-Thunder-Max-Power-%252d-White%7B47%7DRed%7B47%7Dblack.html

Because it depicts a tinted visor, for the description to state it comes with clear. - don't get me wrong, I get that they have costs and need to make profits but it shouldn't be displayed 'as its not' - if a car was marketed with a games console inside, people would expect to get it all in.

Another vote for me Thumbs Up

I got my helmet from there last year, cheaper than anywhere I looked. Got it for £400 and they shops still advertising it for £550 plus:

https://www.racevisors.co.uk/product/arai-helmet-rx7-gp-Nicky-3-Stars

They are very helpful in there and nice to meet some enthusiasts rather than popping in HG years ago.

Went out of their way to find me a helmet that fit, changed the cheek pads as someone mentioned above and got a black visor.

Went back there for some Knox gloves and because I had bought in there before they was happy to give me a discount.

I pop down there when I can, taken a few friends with me and will always recommend Thumbs Up

And yet its ok to use a picture of a fully specced out car in an advert that states 'prices from' for the poverty spec one. Or even to have 'serving suggestion' on the packaging of a ready meal.

It is of course illegal in the UK to sell dark visors or helmets with dark visors for road use so bit of a moot argument from someone who wants a helmet with dark visor but doesn't want to pay for it.

Each lid I've had I've paid for a tinted visor after purchase, you can buy tinted legally, but they could at least have modeled it with the clear one it's shipped with, not hard.

I'm all for paying for something that I want, but they don't need to dress products up.
For the record, I've worked in a few manufacturing environments even to the point where the stuff is photographed to be put on packaging and quite often it isn't dissimilar.

Holy thread revival, but at least I did do a search first.

Are these guys still ok to use? Looking at a new Shoei as mine is a tad old. Has anyone had them post a lid to them? Do they send a dark visor as normal or will I need to order one? I'm crap at haggling bargains and free stuff.

I bought a brand new Shoei from them a few months ago and they are still as good as ever. The guy spent a while going over different lids to try on and they had a deal on where you could either get £40 off the price or get a spare visor and padded helmet bag.

As for dark visors it will depend on what lid you buy - ones with internal flip down sun visors don't appear to have tinted stock visors that you can buy unless its compatible with a previous model.

I've used the one is West Bay a few times, never had a problem. Staff are always helpful and are usually willing to haggle.

Everything I have bought they have either matched or come very close to the cheapest online price.

If you park outside, make sure you only turn the camera on after you slap the manager in the face.
