Posted: 21:19 - 03 Aug 2014 Post subject: Robinsons Foundry Fairings and SV650 Paint Code? |
 |
|
Hi all,
I'm after some fairings for the SV650S K5, and know that genuine ones are an expensive, but a safe bet.
I've seen that Robinsons Foundry have them online, so looking to buy them from there, but not sure if I will have to order the fitting kit as well? I know that on their website the product description, it say's this:
"Contains all necessary panels and fixings
Fits Suzuki SV650SK3-SL1 Faired Models (2003-2011)"
It's confusing because my bike is an unfaired model, so presumably it wouldn't fit, but then again, it says it contains all the fittings so I'm confused. Anybody know for sure?
The other question is I don't know the paint code. There's about 3 different blues, so not sure what mine is, or where to find the paint code on the bike? (It's not in the service manual)
Cheers |

Probably easiest to go down the local Suzuki dealership and ask for the paintcode to be certain.
Think its YC2 Candy Grand Blue though, but the colour-paint itself won't give the same outcome, three-stages unfortunantely

I called and asked robinsons, and they used my VRN to find out what colour blue the bike is. It's annoying because the fairings in my bike's colour are discontinued, and therefore the only colour I can order them in is grey, which will mean having them sprayed to match the bike.
I've called a local auto-spray shop, who say they have a large number of suzuki bike colour chips, so I'm looking at buying the grey ones and having them sprayed up, which is a bit more of a messaround than I had hoped.
Anybody know if a suzuki dealer direct, as opposed to robinsons, is likely to have the colour I'm after, or is it likely that all dealers draw them from a central supplier which has now run out?
I will call robinsons tomorrow to order the fairings in grey, and then let the spray shop know what the paint code is to match my bike, in case they can't mix that paint, and then I'll have find somebody who can.
I know prices vary hugely where paintwork is concerned but what's a ballpark figure for the respraying of the two lower fairings? I'm hoping no more than about 150 quid? |

You'd need the VIN number to find an accurate color.
Personally I don't chance it on bodywork stuff without it, too much money if it goes tits up & with a chassis number you've got 100% accuracy.
Does seem pretty derp to go on a company page, look at their stuff, then go onto a bike forum and ask questions about it rather than just calling the phone number that's splattered all over their page though. ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

They aren't particularly useful in person IMO. I live about half a mile away and they are usually bored, tired looking grumpy staff with little interest on the parts counter.
Servicing staff are pretty sound, helped me out a few times with bits and bobs, fitting stuff in around to save me a bit of money.
Why are you buying fairings? Last time I got a quote for genuine fairings from them it was astronomical. ____________________ Previous: GSF600, FZR600 x2, ZXR750, XT600 Tenere, CB125, CZ125, ETZ 250, ER5, CCM R30, DRZ400, RF600x4, RF900x2, GS500, VTR1000F, 640 SMC, CB250 NIGHTHAWK, GT550x3, GPX750 TE610, CB500, X11x2, SV650, ZING 125, TL1000R,CB250 Superdream, CBR1100XX |

My dad was the first parts guy when Robinsons moved to the foundry in the early 80's He was telling me about their old computer systems the other day, for somebody born in 1990 it all seemed so archaic.
Anyway, on topic, surely one of the ebay fairing suppliers does what you need? You can buy a whole set here: clicky for probably what it'll cost you to buy one piece and have it sprayed. ____________________ I am a bellend, I am a man of constant sorrow, I am a gummy bear, I am a rock. |

Well I can just about stomach the sv, with only the cowling, but it's about my least favorite looking bike, and since I enjoy everything about it other than how it looks, I thought it's worth making it what I want. I saw some fully faired SV's this weekend at a bike dealer, and thought it looked really good, so thought bugger it.
Robinsons would have charged £475 for the fairings if they had not been discontinued. The ones they did have were grey, and then wouldn have needed respraying which I was umming and arring about. Clearly it's a fortune, so thought better of it.
Luckily during some last minute deliberation, I was browsing ebay and came across a second hand, but unused genuine set, for about a third of what robinsons charge. Snapped them up, but this meant I had to order the fitting kit from robinsons, and now I'm waiting on them to arrive to see if they need respraying.
I think my bike is the slightly darker candy grand blue, wheras the fairings are candy napoleon blue, so will probably have to get them resprayed.
I called the spray shop today and asked if they have the correct colour, which they do, but the guy couldn't give me an idea of the cost. I'm guessing they will be about £50 a side, assuming that they don't need any prep work. |

They lost their Harley dealership brand (from local knowledge) because they were shipping brand new bikes to Euro dealers and making massive profit on them.
They are now a Suzuki, Victory and Aprilia dealership.
I sort of want a test ride on a Victory, every time I pop in for a filter or bolt I seem to find myself staring longingly at one. ____________________ Previous: GSF600, FZR600 x2, ZXR750, XT600 Tenere, CB125, CZ125, ETZ 250, ER5, CCM R30, DRZ400, RF600x4, RF900x2, GS500, VTR1000F, 640 SMC, CB250 NIGHTHAWK, GT550x3, GPX750 TE610, CB500, X11x2, SV650, ZING 125, TL1000R,CB250 Superdream, CBR1100XX |

The fairings arrived yesterday, and the fitting kit from robinsons arrived this morning. The second hand fairings I opted for from ebay are unfortunately not genuine like I hoped they were. They are more flimsy than I expected but the guy in the body shop said they seemed good quality, and the finish in them (Candy Napoleon Blue), was good.
Annoyingly, they didn't have the chip for Candy Grand Blue (Y2C), which my bike is, but I took them the pillion handle, and they are going to colour match that. They are a reputable firm, who are well known for good work, so my only worry is that it will be wasted on cheapo flimsy fairings, and that being japanese copies, they won't stand up to decent speeds and day to day abuse of bike riding.
Hopefully I will have the fairings back in the proper colour tomorrow, and I can fit them and get some before and after pictures up. Cost of both fairings resprayed is £160, so slightly more than what I was hoping, but probably a fair price, for the standard of work they are known to do. |

Basicly they do this;
1 - Answer phone
2 - Talk to someone who has absolutely no idea what they're asking for (half the time they're demanding you get them a part that doesn't actually exist & they've actually snapped a panel in two or something like that)
3 - Find it on a million pictures (that aren't actually labeled in any particular way that makes any sense)
4 - Work your way through a series of lengthy numbers as the computer crashes multiple times trying to supercede this that and the next (and then tells you it's NLA anyway)
5 - Get a price for that part and tell the customer
6 - Check stock
7 - Go and check the bin location and get the part in your hand
8 - Get told "Ay wot, ow much? I can get eet on ebay for less den dat" and have them hang up, despite quoting them the parts individual prices multiple times throughout the call.
And then repeat.
Honestly, you spend 90% of your day being told about how great ebay is, how overpriced you are, and how you're taking too long. The other 10% is spent tidying up, and calling suppliers to find out why the fuck they can't read an order form that's printed in huge capital letters & being quizzed by workshop as to where X part for job Y isn't here.
You do however get the genuinely awesome customers who you can have a laugh with, talk sense & generally are understanding...It's just after a day of utter shite & being spoken to like scum, you can't always be happy smiley, good to see you buddy etc.
That's why parts guys are like that after a while ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

Most of my extensive working hours are spent in a kitchen above 50'C with much more pressure and time constraints, but I enjoy it. If it's shit being a parts guy, do something else. ____________________ Previous: GSF600, FZR600 x2, ZXR750, XT600 Tenere, CB125, CZ125, ETZ 250, ER5, CCM R30, DRZ400, RF600x4, RF900x2, GS500, VTR1000F, 640 SMC, CB250 NIGHTHAWK, GT550x3, GPX750 TE610, CB500, X11x2, SV650, ZING 125, TL1000R,CB250 Superdream, CBR1100XX |

I need a solid reliable full time job, that doesn't require driving 24/7 and on call hours. Would like to transfer into a role I enjoy, however I have to start somewhere. Have considered re-training and going to college, however this isn't a viable option as I get one day off a week.
I do keep my eyes out, however as yet I can't see anything that's worth leaving where I am for! My workmates are fairly alright people, as is my boss. I can't see any merit in leaving an average job, for a job that pays the same, where I'd still have to put up with the same b/s, but having to deal with new people who may or may not be dongs.
Working under pressure is enjoyable. It's interesting, you push yourself harder and as such it's more rewarding, theres a challenge there...half the reason I stuck at the courier work, but there's no money in being a courier, not even enough to support a basic flat, let alone any form of social life.
Unfourtunately, with no qualifications it's not quite as easy as doing something else - but we're way off topic now aren't we! ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.
