hello chaps

so I have a haynes - which I always find unreadable and have fallen foul of missing information usually the key info that prevents the machine working again, and I have the Yam shop manual which assumes a level of competence on maintaining bikes

neither has what I'm after which is a step by step illustrated guide on how to change fork oil and seals , and tips that we develop which do not find their way into the hardback manuals and guides.

So can anyone help?

thanks. looks really helpful but I could do with the pics as they offer a reference point when you are working through the job - pictures speak a thousand words , and all that.
can we get the pics back or are they hosted off this site?
if we put images up on this site then are they only held for a certain time?
or do we not know?

Those pictures would have need host on another site.
If they were uploaded here they would be still up.

When are you doing the seals.?

One tip is to cut a pease of paper about 3" by 4.5" to wrap around the top of the fork when putting on the new seal.
Wrap it half on the top of the fork and turn in the part not on the fork a little.
Put some grease on the paper and slid the seal onto the paper then move the paper and seal down the fork to near where it will sit.

This is just in case there are any pits in the upper fork that could damage the new seal.

Also while doing the seals you might want to think about changing the bushes as well.

cheers paddy, but I have no idea what you are referring to or where or when.
Ive never done this, have no idea what the names of the components refer to and need the pics as reference.
I'm not a mechanic but learn quick and well.
I do most of my jobs around the house, built garden pond, landscape, greenhouse, electrical sockets, mains tails and consumer box rewire., roof lining, attic conversion...
and I'm just a computer engineer

so I learn but need help

not done this before so need 1-1 steps , hence I came here.

In the Haynes manual it tells you all the parts.

Maybe google to check if there are videos that show you how to do this.

I learned alot when I started out preinternet from reading manuals over until I understood it all.

If you don't understand something in the manual just google it or ask here.

check you tube. Both of these are really good. They are not the fazer but all these types of forks are extremly similar in operation.
