Hi. I know a disabled rider that owns a 2011 Kawasaki ER6F and has decided to sell it/part ex for a smaller lighter machine, probably a scooter as it would be easier for them to ride.

I'm not that well up on modern scooter's and small maxi-scooters etc.

The Honda PCX125 has been mentioned and seems to be a nice enough little machine, and not too expensive new either? But what else is out there that is good or has decent reviews? It would be in the 125-250cc bracket, as the owner is not too bothered about speed, or doing more than say 100mile ride out's per day?

Is the Yamaha X-max 250 a decent option, and dare I say it are any of the non Japanese brands pretty decent and worth considering for a bike that will only do 2000-3000miles max per year?

I know they don't want anything retro, so Vespa's are out, and storage space is a bit tight so none of those daft 3wheeled pointless things will be considered. A bit of storage room under the seat for more than just a helmet would be a good point, and the other main factor is that it needs to weigh less than the ER6, or else it would be pointless IMO.

In the 125cc catagory you needn't go further than the Honda PCX, it isn't the best selling (all catagories) scooter for nothing!
I've had a few days on one and it's a lovely scoot, if you know what it's like to ride a battered scooter while on holiday then that is a pole apart from the Honda PCX.

I'm not in to scooters so can't really comment on other machines but from the research I did when I was in the market for a scoot (not needed in the end) I found that the Honda PCX showed up many of the bigger scooters.

Thumbs Up

Cheers, I didn't realise the PCX125 was such a big seller. I might try and get a test ride on one, just to see for myself what they are like, compared to all 2stroke twist&go's I've tried in the past.

I just hope I don't rate the PCX as awesome, and try to start part exchange negotiations with my 1986 Trailie. Laughing

Mind you I can't think of any dealer's who'd want a 28year old machine making their showroom look disrespectable!

What's the disability?

I went for the CCM404 when I couldn't use my right leg.

Light weight to pull around, lots of height for some DIY crutch holders and wheelies nicely enough.

It's definitely not a height problem id say. (Parkinsons disease)

It's more the weight issue of a bike in the ER6 bracket, and also the fact that use of the left leg is at times very difficult and has little feeling/movement and poor control, to the point where it may not stay on the peg at times?

The ER6 is a pretty comfy bike though IMO, so I guess that's something they are looking to maintain, just with a smaller/lighter bike and a more feet in riding position, and less use of the left leg required?

Rode my pcx for 2 years. Never missed a beat and was a pleasure to ride. We'll built as are [most] Hondas. Can't recommend it enough.

had my pcx for just over a year

not sure if i would fancy riding one too far though

has he looked a piaggio scooters

the x10 is ugly but has the space for storage and with a 350cc engine will do 100 miles with ease

honda also do the forza a bigger version of the pcx with a 300 engine in

or kawazaki do a scooter now called the j300

this is also sold by kymco as the downtown

it isnt quite as beefy as the forza so may be perfect

SH300. It is the best scooter currently available, IMO - close to 125 weight and dimensions, but over twice the power.

But it's best specifically as a scooter - that means city riding. On the open road, it's lacking. It's perfectly enjoyable for bimbling on country roads - way more comfy for that than my VFR - but extended stretches of NSL get tedious. It can still lean quite a bit as long as the road isn't bumpy - I've out-cornered guys on Essex country roads when my VFR was out of commission - but you're pushing it then, hit a bump and you're in for an extended wobble.

If going the distance at higher speed, I'd look at the maxi-scoots, possibly Integra, about the closest you get to a motorcycle in scooter format (same frame as the NC700), if you still consider automatic VFR1200s to be motorcycles. But weight and size go up too.

Honda have stopped importing the SH300 into the UK, in favour of the Forza - it has the same engine as the SH300, but with lower power, smaller wheels and 20-30kg more weight. Do not want.

Thanks everyone for the advice and suggestions! Thumbs Up
The rider wants to sell his immaculate looking ER6F first, but I'm sure a test ride on the PCX125, and the SH300 is a certainty too! I do like that 300cc Kawasaki, but it looks a bit too maxi scoot and I suspect it will be physically as big as the ER6 at least, and not really any lighter?
