Yesterday two reports were published regarding crime, one suggesting that crime rates had fallen, the other that it had risen. https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3914289.stm.

As this is an Interest led forum, with people from different parts of the country, different ages and fairly diverse backgrounds I thought it would be interesting to see how many people and their families here have been affected by crime.

In my case in the past five years, I have had two cars stolen (and recovered) and my wife has had her handbag stolen, thankfully no muggings or burglary.

So, have you been a victim or not? What happened and was anyone charged or caught for the crime?

My parents house hasn't been burgled once in the 16 years they have lived in it. Neither of them have had a car stolen in that time either. Infact no-one in my family has been the victim of any crime's as long as i can remember.

However.

The floor our office at work is on was broken into at the weekend. Luckily we only had 1 laptop and a mobile phone stolen, other's weren't as lucky. The security guard for the building had a desktop computer thrown at him when he confronted the intruders. Think it hit him and knocked him to the floor.

They all got away and doubt anything will be recovered.

My brother got robbed for his phone by some dirty, fucking, scumbag pikeys the other week and a couple of years ago some plank stole the number plates off of my mum's white nova and put them on his red nova to do a petrol run, the stupidity of some people. Rolling Eyes
Other than that I've stayed pretty much crime free.

In 1998 I was attacked by a lunatic geezer outside a bar in Glasgow after I punched him for grabbing my boobs!!!!! The lovely chap proceeded to kick my head in leaving me unconcious with a broken jaw!!! And tried to stab the guy I was going out with at the time. Twisted Evil

In 2001 my Gran's house was broken into while her and I were asleep upstairs.

In 2002 our car was stolen!

Glasgow's such a lovely place to live Confused

I had someone try to steal my bike (which I reported and they said 'meh') in 2003.

Other than some chav vandalism (scooter, car) that's been it, fingers crossed.

Our house never had problems with crime 3 or so years ago, things have got worse though.

My personal experience would be getting my moped smashed to bits on a night I forgot to cover it up, they tried breaking the steering lock, but failed and broke the dashboard instead.

Put stones up the exhaust, didn't matter though once I got it started they were all blown out thankfully.

Smashed my electric start to smitherines so had to kick it for about 3 weeks. Rolling Eyes

When I was 11 I got threatened by a drunk with a knife. Didn't report it though I was just scared shitless. Razz

Had my first brush with crime the other day, came out of work to the mini and someone had attacked the lock with a screwdriver Rolling Eyes must have got scared off as it isn't exactly hard to break into a mini. Erm been chased a lot through town and stuff, but haven't been caught yet, hence I have never been mugged Laughing

Our house has never been broken into, and the neighborhood (apart from pikeys on those crap scooter things with the engines on the back) is fairly quiet. The only experience of crime I had was about 2 years ago when a local charver troublemaker punched me in the head. To which i said "ohhh good punch", which seemed to make him even more angry Laughing . He was later evicted, and the police know him well, and want him for assault charges Laughing .
I heard a few months ago they evicted his entire family - there were only supposed to be 4 people living in that house including him - the police took out nine people Shocked Laughing .

The house's boarded up now, I love gloating Smile .

Before I got a bike I was a regular victim of muggings or attempted muggings. Once by luck and the stupidity of the people they were caught by undercover police on the last day of a anti-robbery initiative.

2 of them were sent down for 18months and one (who strangled me) got off scot free. I found out just before I was to testify against him that he was also up for carrying a loaded gun (but I wasn't supposed to know that). The copper who was dealing with my case said the only solution he could see was me moving out of the area.
To cut a long story short, they made me fear for my life every time I walked out my front door for almost 2 years.

I still very rarely walk alone in my area, or even with someone else for that matter.

Someone suggested a motorbike as way to get around without them noticing me, and here I am today.

Danny - to me, revenge is sweet, so one day when you see these guys and you're on your bike with your leathers and helmet on, why don't you jump off and batter the living daylights out of them with a baseball bat!!

Just a thought, not really expecting you to do that!!

People like this should be subject to capital punishment (as was described in the thread the other day).

In the last five years, I have been the victim of six motorcycle thefts at two different addresses. Two times I got the bikes back myself, once it was recovered by the environment agency JUST before the tide came in. My car has been broken into and several acts of petty vandalism.

There has been one sucessful prosecution which has resulted in the gradual demolition of my front wall and repeated graffiti on the back gate. He wouldn't dare try anything in front of me because I have told him that if I catch whoever is doing it, I will get some big hairy hells angels types from Edinburgh to come and break his...I mean their knees whilst I am drinking in my local with the town mayor.

In the past twelve months, I have had a wallet stolen (disappeared into the myre), my bike was stolen (also vanished, seemingly from the face of this Earth), and James' bike was also stolen about six months later (crashed and recovered).

Three separate incidents, all of which were in Cardiff. None where I live in the rolling green feilds of South Staffordshire Very Happy

When I lived in Birmingham I was mugged and burgled (not at the same time though!).

When the house was broken into I was asleep upstairs at the time, so was quite confused when I went down in the morning and loads of stuff had gone. For about half an hour I thought that it was one of the lads who I lived with being obsessively tidy by putting everything away, but he was just as confused when he got up.

Since moving to York I have had no problems, although my girlfriend had her car stereo swiped recently when parked in Huddersfield.

Nope, never had any crime inflicted on me.
I guess that's what comes from living in one of the lowest crime areas in the country - that or all the 'kiddies' in my area know me and are too scared to do anything Twisted Evil

Several times. Of various things.

Mostly the answer has been "No, they were not caught or charged." A very infuriating situation.

Happily, on the odd occasion, they have been "caught". But not charged.

Not been victim of a crime, probably due to living somewhere similar to PsychoHippy's area, where crime doesn't really exist (well, other than road offences and noise pollution but those seem to have died down at a similar time to me not having a bike or using the roads. Laughing )
