i just found out - after a charming man in a white van pulled out of his drive without looking and almost into me - that my horn isnt working.

it worked when i got the bike, only a week ago, and all the other electrics are still working - the bike hasn't been dropped or crashed since i got it either or left out in the rain.

i am hopeful that its an easy fix that i will be able to do myself.

i have literally no mechanical background or skills but am willing to learn if someone cant point me in the right direction (preferably using small words!)

Have you physically checked the connections?

Sometimes they can just vibrate free, might need to stick them back on and tighten slightly with some pliers.

Yeah, find the horn, usually at the front below the headlight. There will be 2 spade connectors going on to it, make sure they are secure, you could also pop them off, give the contacts a clean and re-fit.

Takes about 5 seconds to check.

Whilst youre at it, if your horn is broke or if you just fancy a better one - Id strongly reccomend popping to Halfords and buying a "Bike It! Low note motorbike horn" for the sake of £10.99 it is a MASSIVE improvement to the standard pathetic "neep neep!" horn. Very simple job, unscrew one 4mm allen key bolt that holds the horn bracket onto the chassis, pop off the electrical connectors, bolt new horn on using the same bolt, pop connectors on. Job done, enjoy your more manly sounding horn! Razz

The horn on my YBR was quite unpredicatable. Sometimes it would work OK, sometimes just a weird, strangled 'squeak' came out and sometimes I would get nothing at all.

UNTIL I started using the horn more. I use the horn every day: when parking around the back of my office, there are some blind corners and I give the horn a little toot each time. Since I started using it regularly, the horn ALWAYS works first time.

So, basically - use it or lose it!

Hope you get yours working and can get to use it regularly.

Mines played up when I got it.
spade connections were a bit loose.
Take the spades off the horn.
Squash them gently with pliers.
Make sure they are clean and put back on.
