 |
|
There was a corner called "mummy legend" in a bike magazine in the past. It means they were so unpopular they became mummy of the bike.
I found the articles on the web. Each bike has Unpopularity points and Mummy points at the bottom.
I'm not sure if the translation is enough good to understand though.
unpopular bikes from 80s(?)
edit:translation didn't work, I changed url into google one.
pop-up doesn't work. please click bike name with right click and watch it with new tab. ____________________ own:2020 Serow 250

we got loads of them in new zealand, free trade with japan meant we got all sorts of weird and wonderful bikes,
out of that list ive owned the
ct250, big brother to the nz and oz postal service ct110
https://bikech.info/column/mummy/img/silk.jpg
cbr400r, a pretty legendary bike in nz, gear driven cams and stupidly high redline
https://bikech.info/column/mummy/img/cbr400r.jpg
gb400. again these are pretty legenday in nz, a pretty decent straight from the factory cafe racer, they quite often ended up with xr600 motors in them as they were a time a dozen, there was even a small race series in nz for them
https://bikech.info/column/mummy/img/064.jpg
vt250
these were a popular learner bike, with a shit engine design, and only seemed to last about 30000km before the bottom end went pop, some how they still have a good reputation, but mine was only trouble
https://bikech.info/column/mummy/img/6_60.jpg
klr650,
i owned the tengai version, which had the biggest tank ever, i think i filled it up 3 times the whole time i owned it,
https://bikech.info/column/mummy/img/045.jpg
xz400,
im going to have to say, one of the worst bikes ive ever owned,
the stupid v twin design with a massive over square bore/stroke meant it revv'd like all buggery but didnt go anywhere, also the 2 exhaust pipes per cylinder were a pain in the arse, especially the rear cylinder where it joined to one pipe, in the most awkward place, of course it was made of mild steel, so used to rust, and that small piece required the whole engine to come out to replace, far too many hours were wasted on the pile of junk
https://bikech.info/column/mummy/img/xz400d.jpg
srv250
now that was a decent v twin 250, loved my time on that, sold it for almost double what i paid, tryed to find one for the mrs when we were back in nz for her to do her licence on (250cc learners in nz) but nothing come up for a good price, definitly a bike id buy again
https://bikech.info/column/mummy/img/091.jpg
the ag200 is on the list!! yes!!
the bike i learnt to really ride on when i was a wee whipper snapper,
essentially just a super solid oldskool 2 stroke farm bike, no frills
mine is currently running a make shift saw mill at a mates place back in nz, 25 years on from when i first got it, its had one rebore in that time and is still on the original chain
https://bikech.info/column/mummy/img/ag200.jpg
ive owned a few more than weren't on that list which are obscure over here, of that the sdr200 was my absolute favourite small capicity bike
https://p1.bikepics.com/2006%5C06%5C25%5Cbikepics-618908-320.jpg
its was like a 2 stroke version of the goose 350 (which ive also owned) ____________________ the humans are dead

Had a real thing about them back in the day. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha
