Scared ? Scared !!??
Me ? Confused

YES Shocked
I was.
And still am a bit

Well....I made it through a roundabout....turned onto a housing estate....plodded around for about 15 minutes as my new bikes acceleration was VERY quick...quicker than the old Suzuki I learnt on for my CBT.

So...anyways..I get the hang of that....
then decide to go for a wander...along a nice big country road...kept up to speed...did about 50...yay Mr. Green

Got to a busy junction at the end....
STALLED IT !! Embarassed
Panicked...couldn't re-start it...got fuzzy...wheeled it into someones drive ! Embarassed

Eventually....got it together....calmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...........start again.......put it into neutral , press starter, but did not rev it....hey presto !! 1 started bike ! Smile

Rode back along the nice road...got to a small humpback bridge....was hesitant...got slower...went to speed up....STALLED IT ! Evil or Very Mad Embarassed
Blu**y hell !!!!!!!!
7/8 cars behind me...fine..fine....starting on a hill...not good..but...down into 1st.... start...ok..ok....and off I went. Confused

Made it back to the garage anyways without too much hassle....

I know I have to do it again tomorrow...I am slightly scared !! Shocked

Does riding in busy traffic/with cars behind you get easier ????
I get kind of edgy when cars are up my bum ... Confused

I was doing 50 but people were still trying to get up in my a**

Oh well....I have done it once now...the next time will be easier..right ? Crying or Very sad

Hi

Enjoy your new toy. There are a fair few of us around the West Midlands so pop along to one of the bike meets with us (I live just outside Stafford).

All the best

Get yourself into an empty carpark or something (it's saturday tomorrow, lots of office with quiet parking) and just start stop start stop start stop until you've really got a handle on it - part of your stressing is probably that you're not convinced you can start, that makes you more nervous, so you do actually stall.

As I said in the other thread, you have to own your space on the road - I know it's hard to do at first, but sod the cars up your arse, you have the right to be there and make sure you use it. If your body language/road position say 'nervous' then some cars will take that as more reason to try and intimidate you.

Gets better the more you do it. Thumbs Up

Agree with Bendy with owning your space on the road.

Try to ride 2/3'rds of the way across your lane, not cowering at the edge. Cars won't try to overtake and perform silly moves on you then.

Riding in traffic soon gets easy, you'll have the hang of it in no time!

whats with all the stalling?

do you dip the clutch when traveling along and forget to change down or something? or do you fail to dip the clutch when braking in a high gear?

Ah well, you will make mistakes as you are a newbie, thats what being a newbie is about! Very Happy just keep at it and try to stay safe and soon you will be as good as anybody else on the road!

Yer i remember those times all too well. Even after passing my 125 test I was like that. Didn't help that i had the cbr, and the throttle and clutch were razor sharp. You have to get them just right. Also you need a handfull of revs to move the thing.

Take it slow and safe, while you are learning. The better you get, the more fun it becomes. The trick is to build up confidence slowly and safely... Thumbs Up Good luck!

woo cg same as me!

One reason i used to stall was because I used to release the clutch until i felt the bike point before revving...so id sometimes release the clutch too much and stall, but now I rev the bike and release the clutch when im already revving as I know where my bite point is, havnt stalled in months!

The CG is a pretty fun bike for someone whos never ridden before too, mines a 2001 model, whats yours?

Welcome to the forum!

Everyone make mistakes when they're learning.
I stalled the CG loads of times when i did my cbt but i have never stalled the NS-R.

Just keep practicing, you will get used to driving in traffic.
Just take it steady for a while until you find your feet and if you have any questions then ask them, everyone is very friendly on here.

Thumbs Up Wink

I know exactly what you mean, having only passed my CBT on Monday. Scary but fun is the way I would describe it. Personally I am riding on quiet roads before I start commuting.

Have fun.

When I first started biking, four months ago, I used to get up early to avoid the traffic, and commute to work. Used to get in at 7:30, and we dont start till 9:00. Also used to stay late to avoid rush hour.

When I passed my cbt, I was always stalling etc. and mostly at very busy roundabouts or traffic lights. But eventually, when you're happier at slipping the clutch, you will pull off a lot better. With practice, you should be able to stop the bike rolling backwards on a hill start without using the brake. Don't worry, it should all come pretty quickly, I've only been riding since April. I never got confident until I'd ridden a couple of times up and down the dual carriageway and had learned the limits of my bike. Still don't know them all, but its all learning. Are you going on to do your DAS?
