Get sponges, cloths brushes and what not from a pound shop. Don't bother with expensive proper biking stuff.
Paraffin to clean the chain for same reason.

I keep two 5 litre pump pressure sprayers in the garage, bought for a few £££ in Lidl.

One is kept filled with water, t'other with mixed wash-n-wax.

Precisely every-so-often, I sluice down my daily ride with the water, particularly underneath, give it a quick wipe down with a sponge on top, then on with the wash-n-wax and away it goes wet.

ACF-50 goes on in autumn after a more thorough clean. A litre bottle of liquid put on with a brush or rag is much better long term value than the aerosols.

Local reputable motor factors, buy traffic film remover and dilute as recommended, it will do the same (and better) as muc-off or any of the other hyper-overpriced pretend to be superior magical products.

Just don't use TFR every wash, it is rather aggressive, a 'soapy sponge and rinse' regularly is all you need, TFR when bike is grotty with dirt and traffic film (traffic film = pollutants that adhere to and degrade protective coatings. i.e paints and lacquers.

ACF50 , is worth applying regularly.

Liberal application of paraffin to get rid of all nasties, old toothbrush for hard to reach bits followed by a clean with any decent 'wash & wax' product. Cheap furniture polish for afters.

I used to clean mine thoroughly everytime it got noticeably dirty - given up the last couple of years, and realise how pointless it was now.

Its going to get dirty sooner or later, even riding on nice dry roads the dust can often be worse than a short ride in torrential rain during winter. The only thing I bother to clean off more than once every 6 months now days is flies during summer - I use non-abrasive adhesive remover to get them off as they seem to have a habit of turning into bloody, sticky, clotted chunks of gunk across the front of the bike - and are a PITA to get off. Riding in Dorset country roads a lot can end up with them partially blocking your headlights at some times of year Laughing

Autoglym and Mucoff do a lot of good stuff [fair bit of its available locally at Halfrauds if you don't want to buy it cheaper online] although i'm sure a lot of cheaper generic alternatives may well just as good a job - I just found they were consistently reliable products.

Either way though - ACF-50 - this isn't even about cleaning nescessarily, it will help it look nicer, but more importantly it does a real good job of stopping and preventing rust on parts you don't want to turn brown and titanic like. Its pricey per can but it lasts a decent while as a little goes a long way.

Dirt can be left and will wash off easily when you can be bothered - rust might not be such an easy fix Thumbs Down

ACF 50 followed by rain.

I prefer to ride a bike that spend time cleaning it only for it to get dirty again.

Sponge, water, car shampoo. After that, I have a short ride on it to dry it out properly, lube the chain, done.

Anything else is just waste of your money.

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like acf 50 is a must!

I'm sure I heard of spraying the whole bike in duck oil to protect it? Is that right? Or is that just another brand of acf 50
