Hi folks.

As some of you may be aware, I came back to the UK a few months ago and brought my bike with me.

I am still on Manx plates at the moment and would like to keep them as long as is legally possible, mainly as they don't show up on ANPR systems. This is not because I ride like an idiot and want to flout the law particularly, although we all make mistakes now and then Wink but, it does appear that po po leave me alone when they clock the plates. Also, they can't enforce silly parking fines either. Very Happy I'm also quite fond of my Manx plates, as daft as that sounds. Embarassed

Anyway, my problem is, that my Manx road tax is due to expire at the end of this month and I looked into purchasing it online but, I can't as they send you a number to use through the post.

Am I going to have to register the bike in the UK to have to purchase road tax here or does anyone know a way around this?

The thing is that the letter with the details on will be sent to my old address and I don't live there any more, so it's not really an option.

Check my thinking.

Make it to October, no physical vehicle license (tax disc) is required. It's all down to what The Computer says.

The Computer sees Manx plates, says "Don't ask me, guv".

Perfect "crime"? Thinking

I think you might have gone beyond that...

I don't know if there's any sort of special on for Manx plates but gov.uk says

The also added

If your car has non-UK number plates and you’re stopped by police, you must show you can use the vehicle in the UK without taxing and registering it here.

You may have to show proof of the length of time you’ve been in the UK (eg a ferry ticket) or evidence that you and the vehicle are eligible for customs relief.

It is very possible that no one will have a clue, unless your neighbours call fuzzy duck and his mates.

Interesting. Thinking

My bike is parked off road at home (behind locked gates in the alley way), so it might be worth trying to risk it for a month.

Also, I'm not sure what could actually happen, now that I think about it, with the bike being Manx registered and therfore not on any UK data base. They couldn't issue me with a fine but, could they seize it?

Shocked I thought I had a year to register it.

Although, I've only "officially" been here for about three weeks. Shifty

I'm sure you will do the right thing, but the thing is, until you do UK register it, you're almost entirely beyond the law.

Even if you get stopped, you can just gabble in Manx, show them the webbing (where do you get gloves with 6 fingers?), and make it look like more trouble than it's worth.

Not that I'm advocating it, just... noting it.

All sound advice but the problem is, I'm actually scouse, so if I do get pulled by 5-0 I'll be facing a life sentence or being shot at dawn.
