Little help from some of you guys please
I went to Sheffield Motorcycle Centre today. I was working in the area and dropped in for a nose after spotting it from up the road. I think it might have been the whiff of a bacon butty that first caught my attention, but that's by-the-by
They seemed like a nice bunch (what salesman aren't when they're trying to sell a bike) and were happy enough to field any questions and even start a couple of bikes for me. Bit of a chat, a few jokes etc...
Has anyone here had any dealings with these guys? As I say, they seemed a nice enough bunch but is there anything I should be aware of before potentially dealing with them? Experiences good and bad are welcome
Also, they have a particular model I'm quite keen on. Two new (zero miles) and one [about-to-be] ex-demo (500 ish miles)
Now, I can get either via Blackhorse finance at 8.9% fixed for the term. New with ABS is £7349 + OTR (elsewhere I could get it for £7349 OTR (confirmed in writing) This is a standard model with absolutely no accessories, however the (ex) demo model has a thousand pounds worth of Akra exhaust already bolted on.
It has 21 of the 24 months warranty remaining but is essentially used, as is the included exhaust. I've already been informed that should I purchase gear that they will 'do a deal' on that regardless of what bike I bought. The demo model is for sale at £7349 (already reg'd and taxed and will be pro valeted and serviced before sale)
Do I have a prayer of trying to argue the price of the used bike down? (it is used after all, spotless though tbf) seeing as though it has the can bolted on and the deal they are prepared to do on gear?
TL;DR Never bought new/ex-demo before, looking for a few pointers as to what I should be looking to do to drive down price ish |

I'd rather new than ex demo.
Reasons...
I know plenty of ex demo "rag from cold wheelies at 140 and slammed to the floor sold with 200 miles" riders.
I also know I took a demo car and bike out and promptly forgot they were zero mile demos.
At least you know a new one is YOURS from new or an 10k+ miler has done its job and got past the initial "im gonna break randomly just outside your warranty period."
I'd be buying used and a year or 2 old or getting a brand new MT09. Do the MT09 or Street Triple, makes a lot of sense, so much sense.

Funnily enough today on Facebook a friend commented on someone elses status about how SMC had fucked something up...
https://www.facebook.com/groups/sheffieldbikers/?fref=nf scroll down to the post starting 'Want something done properly do it yourself'
I personally don't use them for maintenance/servicing stuff as I do all my own stuff. I think I had them look at a wiring problem in 2006 which they didn't fix, but that was many moons ago and could have changed.
From experience parts bought from there are quite expensive.
I use them for my MOTs though, as they're open Saturday & Sunday for MOTs. They normally fit me in quick and are pretty fair with any advisories. They also give you a free retest within 10 days (as I found out recently). |
