Hi, I might be in the market for a 125. I was wondering if recovered bikes are OK to even consider? What about auctions - are they OK? Otherwise, I know the usual - gumtree etc.

I wouldn't be put off a bike because it's stolen recovered assuming it's got all the paperwork and that the price reflects the condition it's in (much like any vehicle).

Buying from auctions... https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=3960187

Gumtree? Well that's where to go for stolen bikes that haven't been recovered. Razz

Stolen recovered appears on HPI checks.

It's like a Cat C bike, they are harder to shift or you have to be keener on the price when it comes to sell.

Quite a few people won't buy Cat C/D bikes, and I watched quite a few bikes go for weeks on ebay for a keen price (Fazer 600 2003 for £900) but it kept getting relisted as I assume people figured out it was stolen recovered.

Yeah, to be honest (at least) with 125 bikes I don't think not being listed as C/D means much. I've seen bikes that are not C/D listed but are a death trap (e.g. my bike Very Happy ).

Could be worth it, as long as you make damn well sure all the paperwork is present, and give it a good look over in person (and make sure it runs as well). Stolen recovered could be anything from 'taken with keys and ridden away' to 'wiring hacked to bits and steering lock butchered with a screwdriver after being bundled into the back of a transit on it's side'. Only way to make a judgement is to see the bike in person really.
