And I thought Gileras were Italian Question

Think there a a few super moto companies about which are british and MZ own the BSA name now.

I really don't think Gelera are british but I could be wrong.

Gilera are part of the Piaggio/Vespa group so I assumed they were Italian?

Greeves, relaunched a couple of years ago.

CCM has just gone bust, and the proposed new Nortons are American.

It's amazing, i didn't know there were that many companies that went bust, they would surely of been better off starting up now though with the amount of bikers growing in a steady increase.

Hi

Gilera are Italian. Originally from just outside Milan.

Triumph are now the only volume UK maker. Hesketh make the odd bike (well, they are badged Hesketh), a few people put out the odd frame kit and Norton have tried loads of times to parm off some dodgy sketch as the next world beater.

All the best

Keith

CCM died about two weeks ago. Shame.

Triumph Rock and they are going from strength to strength!

Soon they will be bigger than Ducati! Shocked

They also have the most technically advanced factory in the world, with all of their bikes bar the Rocket III being made on the same production line! Thats right, the man who puts the engine bolts in the left hand side, does it to a Tiger, then a Speed 4, then a Daytona955i, then a Bonneville, then a Daytona 600 and so on.

apparently it is very efficient because the workers never get bored of the repetitive tasks that can be such a drag on a production line.

Also recently (within the last couple of years) Triumph have made a push towards making their own parts. Honda for example have an outside contractor that makes CBR600RR frames, and the brakes are Nissin, the suspension is kayaba etc etc.

Triumph do use parts from those suppliers, however they make their own frames, engines, plastics, swingarms, subframes etc etc. Contrast this with a european manufacturer of similar size like Aprilia, and you'll see that its quite an achievement being that Aprilia don't even touch the engines of their bikes until they enter the factory!!

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
