Hi All....

The DSA wants to increase the fees for all tests and have placed some info on the DSA web site.

Please feel free to read the info on the links below.... (too much to cut and paste)

https://www.dsa.gov.uk/pdf/consult/fees2004/cover_letter_June-04_2-1.pdf

https://www.dsa.gov.uk/pdf/consult/fees2004/Consultation_Document_2004-05_ver_2-11.pdf

https://www.dsa.gov.uk/pdf/consult/fees2004/Annex_C_Consultation_Document_2004-05_ver_2-11-3.pdf

https://www.dsa.gov.uk/pdf/consult/fees2004/Annex_D_Consultation_Document_2004-05_ver_2-11-4.pdf

Do you think the DSA should increase the fees for the Driving Test ?

Shocked They are extortionately priced as it is, especially since most instructors 'recommend' the hours lessons beforehand and then you have the car/bike rental hour for the test itself Rolling Eyes. If they want to up the prices, then they need to be less pedantic when it comes to giving out the pass mark. Oh yes, and I also think examiners should be banned from saying stuff like 'It was a really good test....you should of passed....if it wasn't for that small mistake!' It's the last thing I wanted to hear when being passed a piece of paper with a big line through the 'fail' box Rolling Eyes!

I paid £500 all in for a 4 day DAS. Plenty enough imo. Shocked

I think they should keep the prices for bike tests as they are and give car drivers a discount if they do a cbt. Smile

we already have to pay more because we have to sit a theory test as well now (plus with the bizarre-ness of the hazard perception there's probably greater odds of people having to do that bit twice..), plus the cost of paying them to print up your licence, and the cost of driving/riding lessons are fairly extortionate too, so I can't really see the fairness in increasing the cost Confused

If there is actually anything more in return for the increase in test fees then it would be fair game to me, but as there is not it does seem quite strange. We already have to pay quite a lot to get a driving license of one type or another, and there is no other ways of getting one other than paying the DSA lots of money. Having a driving license is almost part of life, as you do need to be able to transport yourself and believe me it is a tight pain when suddenly you can't! So people are left with no choice but to pay through their teeth for something which they need to have.

They should either put the prices down, or at least keep them the way that they are currently, or open up the market so that driving schools can offer driving tests. Yes they would have to get their staff trained up to the correct level and there would need to be some way of trying to make sure that all tests are conducted to the same standards, but having a competitive market would offer better prices and better services to customers.

There should also just be a single fee you pay to get your license, instead of the stupid number of times you have to pay for each separate item which the system has now. You should pay onces up front, which gets you your application for your provisional, one theory test, one practical test, and one license application for your provisional to be changed to a full license. This would make the whole system so much easier, as pretty much everyone who does the first bit then goes on to do the other parts. They would need to have it so that you can redo your test if you fail, and this would have to be an additional charge, but 100% of test candidates need at least 1 attempt at their theory and practical test so why not have all this included and covered by a single payment.

Breaking down what we actually get for our £48 test fee, about 1 hour of the examiners time, their bike costs for that time, and a couple of bits of A4 paper. Not much really is it. Confused

Would be nice for something to be changed, but they can just change their prices however they please as people will still pay them due to it being the only way to get a full driving license. Thumbs Down

Isnt it expensive enough as it is! I paid £400 to get through a restricted test using my own bike (3 days) and hubby paid £550 to do a 4 day DAS and test.
I passed my driving test 10 years ago and it was only £10 an hour for a lesson, now its more than doubled!
I agree with Danny, if a car driver takes a cbt then he gets a discount on his car test. Keep bike tests the same. Maybe if more car drivers took cbt's then they would realise that we are on the road too and not just look through us (or into us!).
