Hi

Bought one of these yesterday and on the ride home heard a loud whack on the bike (like a stone hitting) - Got back and found it leaking oil from the cooler down over the exhaust - Cooler is a recent fit by the old owner, so it may be a knackered cooler or it may be I've damaged it with a stone impact, either way, its busted. Luckily, despite being virtually empty on oil there were no horrible knocks and the bike restarted fine this morning (albeit for about 10 seconds before I turned it off - Not gonna run it dry).

Looking on eBay etc there are others available but they all look pretty rough for £50 to £100. However, reading on here some people suggest its okay to ditch the cooler altogether (apparently some of the XJ600s didn't have coolers fitted as standard or something).

Its mainly going to be used in town for 30mph riding, and small trips within 30 miles - Nothing heavy and its not going to be getting thrashed - Is it worth replacing the cooler or would it be fine on some high pressure hose and good clips?

Quite a few guys on the Diversion forums ditch them, as you say replacements are expensive, the pre 1997 ones came without the oil cooler anyway iirc.
