Hello

On my way to work on the very first day I'm using the CB-1, suddenly burning hot coolant over my leg, much ouch, sh*t pull over... let it cool down, get some Water (shout out to the passerby who helped!) filled it up, got it running... 5 minutes later its above the H level, way too hot.

Observations so far:
- I believe the Carbs are slightly blocked as at high revs there is a slight null where the power-band should be, could be running too rich?
- The radiator fan does come on although not as soon as I would have expected nor as furiously as I expect, quite weak and rarely stays on for long.
- I was making progress along an A road so there was plenty of air flow and was also not using the high revs was taking it real easy.

Any suggestions?

Yes, the broken thermostat seems to be the most likely cause, the the fan is spinning quite slowly and not very consistently, it will usually stop spinning after 10 seconds although the bike is getting progressively hotter.

I'm just wondering, why did you suggest Cylinder head gasket?

Hi mate I've got a cb-1 I removed the fan switch and put in a manual switch as I didn't trust it to be cooling the rad enough.

Cheers for the suggestions, I have filled completely from the thermostat cap, and have adjusted the rather high 2500rpm idle down to a more cooler 1300rpm

This has solved my problem. It runs a little on the warm side now but it actually runs!

However, I have noticed a clicking sound coming from the engine, it seems to only happen when applying the throttle, moving or not and it makes no difference if the Engine is hot or not. Could this be a valve? I will do a clearance service ASAP

How dangerous is it to run the machine with this clicking, I have not noticed a performance change

Can you remove the thermostat? If so, remove and put in a bowl of hot water, unsure of their opening temp but you should see it open.

If that is fine, check for air locks, so bleed the water system.

If all is well, sniff test perhaps.

CB-1's go hot quite alot and often, my fan was spinning at 6th gear going about 40mph when it was hot outside.
I set idle to around 1100rpm to keep it cold a bit.

Clicking from the engine could be the starter clutch. Thumbs Up

Did the same thing with mine. Taped the switch on the right hand side of the frame just below the tank where i could reach it easily.

I'm getting the valves done soon but if it is the starter clutch, how do I stop the click? It is not too bad, all the rattling kinda reminds me of a Ducati xD

Himmm, I have lowered the Idle a lot and flushed the whole system and whilst it will remain cool on the A roads it will creep up slowly when still or driving below 30 Mph...

To be honest, I have never cared and was told it was just harmless ticking, but some people on the https://www.hondacb1.org/forum/index.php solved that thing.
I'm not sure but welding was involved. My ticking was gone once I hit 2,500rpm or so and I could barely hear it with my lid on.
